All Companies in general main goal is to produce more goods so they have more profit. And to lower costs and increase profits they will want to produce as much as possible with as little workers possible so they have less labour costs thus increasing their profits. In general people that are larger in height have more producing "power" if you may and that is why they ask for the height.they will produce more with 100 people that are 6 feet tall then with 100 people that are 4 feet tall and they would have to pay them the same.As for the appearance I don't know why they ask for that.

Well companies most of the time will be wanting to get the most out of their employees. And most of the time people with more stature(height) 6ft1 might be able to produce more then someone that is lets say 4ft.So i see it as "positive" discrimination they have nothing against the person they simply want to produce more.I do not know what appearance has to do with it though.
