I think marriage is a great idea, but clearly something has gone wrong for a lot of people. I'd like to hear some opinions on why so many marriages are failing in the world.

Main thing in this problem is misunderstanding and lack of understanding. Marriage life will be a success only when both partners know each other

I don't know about the rest of the world but here in the States there are many reasons for divorce but the main ones are money, adultry, abuse, and boredom, and worse of all lack of communication about the first reasons.Trying to mix love with marriage is hard work and many try but don't succeed.

Well, I think the basic problem is lack of understanding among partners. This can lead to numerous problems between a couple. And there is suspicion which is the greatest enimy of any relationship. We cannot forget economic situations because when money problems come, the love leaves from the back door. Then some people are blabbermouths, they dont know how to talk sense. In a marriage, two people from entirely different surroundings come together and share everything. This is anyway difficult, how much ever you love each other. So, in my opinion, marriage is beautiful as long as you are prepared to understand, giving, devoted, trusting and faithful. This is only my opinion, so anybody can talk against.

Marriages fail, as per my own perception, because the couple failed to fully know each other before they get married. Most oftenly, the true identity of both surfaces after they get married. During courting period, the man and the woman tries to hide their true self just to please each other. This is the reason why many are opting to have a live-in first before getting married to see if things will work out for both...

I don't think that most people know that marriage isn't easy. I think that many people are unwilling to put in the time and effort to make it work.
