Ladies, are diamonds really still a girl's best friend?

As much as I do in fact love diamonds they aren't my favourite stone by any means...Tied for first place with me is Amethyst, Amber and Sapphire which is my birthstone....

I don't think so. I am a female, however, I am not so interested in such things like diamonds. I like IT stuff much more, such as digital camera, I-mu, PDA etc. Lately my husband bought me a super digital camera and I am so happy to it:)

It's very strange...I used to think, long ago that diamonds were too ordinary and I much preferred rubies, sapphires and emeralds. Then I was given a beautiful diamond ring and it suited me and I began to love it. I felt good wearing it and good things happened. I also was given a sapphire ring and when I wore this beautiful ring things went badly for me and I realised that sapphires were bad luck for me. Now, even though I love the colours and have added amethysts to my list of stones, I prefer to wear diamonds because I think they like me. I have a silver ring shaped like a snake with ruby eyes, a little heart pendant with emeralds and zircons, a very unusual amethyst ring in gold, a huge sappire solitaire ring in silver from my mother and a gold eternity ring with sapphires and diamonds. I don't wear the sapphires.
My birthstone is opal and I really love oals with diamonds but they have been unlucky for me being lost and stolen.
I have two beautiful diamond rings but they no longer fit me.

I agree. I would prefer silver jewelry than gold.

Price not considered, I much more prefer emeralds and gems. Rubys, emeralds, saphires, pearl, garnets.....diamonds to me are just not that pretty - nothing catchy about white, clear or whatever color a diamond is. But flash that beautiful ruby or emerald and there you have an eye-catcher!

I've never really cared for diamonds. Sure, they're pretty and all, but I've never really ever wanted one. (And when I did have one in my engagement ring, I hardly ever wore it after the marriage lol) I like jade, turquoise, and other stones more than I like diamonds.

And hubby didn't know about your favorite stones. Bummer. I bet if your ring was a combination of your favorite stone ans diamonds you would wear the ring more often.

I really like diamonds. IT's the way a well cut diamond catches the light and disperses it into a million colours.
I guess coloured rocks are nice too. If i had to choose i would say tanzanite, since it has a faint lavender sheen and is more rare than diamonds. lavendar is also my favourite colour.
but ultimately there is something classic in a white diamond that has the ability to refract all these wonderful colours of the rainbow.

I prefer the man created stones. That way, I don't get as upset when they get lost or broken. I do wear diamonds though, but only because my engagement ring was handed to me from a dear friend, who passed away at the age of 88. It is unique and I love that.

I do like Diamonds but I also like other gems. I mostly like things that sparkle though.
