Basic Construction for Real Life?

Dose anyone else use the sims for a very basic construction plans, I am planning on building a house a long time from now and just for S&G's I started building a basic design with the sims game, granted it dosen't have everything that I can use, but it is fun to play around with for ideas. My question is as anyone else done this or am I just very werid?
