No oregano on my Margherita, please!

Italy

Inspired by a thread on mistakes in cooking pasta, here is the number one mistake I've noticed in pizzas, expecially if I eat it outside of Italy: The margherita pizza should have tomato, cheese and BASIL. Basil, not oregano! Most pizzerias outside of Italy use oregano, and it's not good, I don't like the taste of oregano+ cheese. If you don't have basil, don't use nothing , a pizza with cheese and tomato still tastes good. Oregano should be used only in a pizza called Napolitan: tomato, oregan, garlic. Sadly, this mistake is made even by pizzerias of the north of Italy, so keep attention!

Yep, italiana:D vicino a Milano. Yes Margherita is the same even in England (even if my American friend didn't know what it was so maybe it isn't "Margherita" in America lol :D )

Oh dear! I guess I have it wrong then! I love oregano and put in on all my pizzas if I have it and anything else with a tomato sauce! I suppose it's just a personal taste as it's my favourite herb. Whoops! I remember having the best pizza I'd ever eaten in Sorrento, Italy though. It was unbelievable. No doubt it was how it was meant to be made.

don't worry, it's ok :) Oregano is good on pizzas, I just don't like it on the cheese^^ Oregano on tomato sauce, with ingredients different than cheese, is very good. It's just that if a pizzeria makes me pay for a Margherita, it better be the real recipe Do you want to know something funny? I've heard that in france if you don't use oregano on Margherita the costumers get angry *laughs* I guess it's hard to please everyone...

No I didn't know that. It doesn't have garlic? I read somewhere that for Italian dishes, the big three spices are garlic, basil and oregano.
