For years I would read any book Gilbert Morris would write. Even the books he wrote with his daughter were my absolute favorite. I started reading his books as a teen when my mom bought me a set of his work, and I loved them. He deals in fiction mainly. Who are some of your authors? What genre do they write in, or do they dabble in several? How did you find them, did someone loan you a book by them? Or did you just like what you read on the back of the book jacket?

Hi AmbiePam How are you doing...? Well I think no pleasure could ever be matched with the pleasure of you being alone with a book! And its thats why rightly said that "Books are the best Friend of Men." They will never leave you. They Will be always with you in your 'Good and Bad times'. They will always teach you one thing or another! Simply, If One got befriended with books he will hardly need any other friend at all! I My self read varites of books...being an Indian I know English and many regional Languages! I prefer classic and fiction. In English I like JK Rowwliung , Dan Brown and Jeffrey Archer! I have read all their books known to me, JK Rowllling was a bit diffrent...Her Harry Potter series charmed me a lot! About Dan Brown...I can claim no other author can shock me as he shocked by his fantastic charm of the marvollous DA VINCI CODE! A must to read for all book lovers! I also have many favourite Hindi authors as well as Marathi,Urdu,Awadhi,Maghadi,Sanskrit,Pali and Bridge language authors too!

J.K. Rowling is in my top list because of harry potter. She's done a great job with the series and have read her works. Dan Brown also is a great author and I really do admire his works. I love books that deal with mystery, murders, suspense, detectives, adventures and the likes. Actually I do read any book that comes my way. I'm also into finding authors not that much known by others. Because of the love for reading, I often drop by booksales and pick anything...For me a booklover, a great reader, does not base on who or how popular the author is. :D

So true. I think some of the best authors are ones that have yet to be discovered by the 'mainstream' media.

Martina Cole is among my favourite all timers. Her books are gritty and un-put-down-able. She explores the darker side of the London underworld and is a great story-teller

As much as I love to read, I don't believe I have a favorite at this time. I pretty much read whatever catches my eye. I just finished a book called "The Perfect Summer," by: Luanne Rice and I have enjoyed other books by her in the past, So maybe she and of course Danielle Steel are my favories. I like an author who can transport me from where I am am pull me inside the book and I feel as though I am where the charactors are. After a really good book, I miss the characters. Stephen King, use to be my favorite but, "The Stand was just too odd and eerie for my taste. I could not finish it and I have never read any of his books since.

That is exactly what I like about Gilbert Morris. He just takes me to a different place, where I forget about me and my surroundings. He's also a Christian author, so I never have to worry about any off color language. There are a couple curse words that drive me nuts if I read them over and over again in a book, ya know?

Since you say that he is a Christian, I will certainly check him out. That is exactly what I need. A good author that I can trust. You know, when you are reading those off colored books, you are forced to say in your mind what they have written on paper. I hate that so much.

My favorite contemporary authour is Jody Picoult. I love that she writes about real-life situations and people. One of my favorite all-time authors is John Steinbeck for the very same reason.

What is the one with the title of 'Sister' in it? Last I read that was in casting to make into a movie to be released in theaters. It is good that they aren't limiting her books just to TV, although TV IS free. : )

I read everything I can get my hands on from Mary Higgins Clark. She writes mysteries and she literally keeps me captivated from page one all the way to the end. I've read several of her books in a day or two. My mom got me hooked on her when I was in high school. I always read about the book from the jacket, but I know it will be interesting without reading that. I also like Anne Perry. I like reading her Thomas Pitt series. It's a detective series set in Victorian times (I'm pretty sure it's Victorian anyway). She is another one that will keep you hooked.

My sister is a Mary Higgins Clark freak! She loves her books, so I always think it would make a great birthday gift. But my sister already has them read before I can buy them first. : ) I used to like watching the TV movies they made out of her books. The now defunct PAX channel used to show them a lot. Have you read any books by the daughter of Mary Higgins Clark?

I think I've read one of Carol Higgins Clark's books. I know I've read a Christmas mystery that her and her mom co-wrote together. It was pretty good, but I prefer Mary Higgins Clark on her own.

Thank you for this discussion Ambie, i would find here a new ideas for books I would liek to read or tr new authors. I don't have many favorite, since it was hard for me to read in english for quite a long time, but now when I udnerstand more and more, i can try to read new autors. When we were living in Germany , there was not very large book store, so i woul usually buy a D. Steel, since it was relaxing to me and I like love stories and her english was very easy to me to read. Since I am here in usa I try to read Nicholas Sparks and love it also. At first it was kinda hard to read, but then i can't take my eyes of it.

I adore Jeanette Winterson. She has such a beautiful skill with words. Her books can be hard to read as they don't always flow like a novel, rather it's a book about the language and themes she uses more than a linear story. Reading her words is to me like plunging my hands into warm sand or something; it's a wonderful experience. My favourites are probably Lighthousekeeping or Oranges are Not the Only Fruit. The Passion was excellent too though.

I would read Oranges are Not the Only Fruit by the title alone!

It's a good one to start with. It's an autobiographical account of the author's struggle growing-up with an overbearing mother and her struggle to come to terms with her sexuality.

Meave Benchley? I am not sure on the spelling of her first name. She is one of my favorite. My sister in law was reading her books and I borrowed them. They are mostly set in Ireland I think as it's been a long time since I read one. Circle of Friends etc. Love her books! I also like John Saul.....his are a little like Stephen kings buy more mild. I used to read Stephen King but the books got too wacky for me.

I normally pick a book because it looks like a good book rather than because a certain author wrote it. I have however read everything Nicholas Sparks has written and all but the last Harry Potter book. It never really occurred to me before I started typing a response, but I guess that Nicholas Sparks and J.K. Rowling are my favorites then.

although Philip Pullman is now being criticized by the catholic people because of th so-called 'anti-christ'in his book (The Northern Lights) which is in the screen as The Golden Compass, he is still a great author for me. His works are purely imagination and i say he has a great one.

I like LM Montgomery, because she writes about characters I'd like to either be like or be friends with. She wrote Anne of Green Gables. Another author I like is Cynthia Voigt. She's a young adult author. I like her characters, too, and how she puts sentences together. Dave Barry is a favorite humorist, and I like him because he makes me laugh out loud.

Oh, gosh, I've got a lot of favorites! I love Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, Robert Sawyer and Orson Scott Card are some of my favs in science fiction. Janet Evanovich, Lilian Jackson Braun and anyone pretty much writing Sherlock Holmes in the mysteries. I was loaned the Cat Who books and a Lackey book, but the rest I've picked up on my own. I'm always up to find a new writer tho.

I don't really have a favorite but my mom loves all books by Dean Koontz. She looks forward to the next book. I have never read any of his books, but she has them all. Have you ever read any of his books?

I do have lots of favorite authors. I am more on fiction and I love those novels written by John Grisham, Tom Clancy, James Patterson, Mario Puzo, Barbara Taylor Bradford and Robert Ludlum. I am always kept entertained by their work and I would happily stay at home during weekends just to read.

I get a bunch of books from my dad, so he has turned me on to two of my favorite authors. John Grisham who mainly writes lawyer type books but has recently branched out is a favorite of mine. I just bought his newest hardcover novel for my dad for Christmas. Sidney Sheldon is another absolute favorite. I think I have read every book he has ever written. I have even read his biography. And of course like many many others, I love J.K. Rowling. Her Harry Potter series will be on my top reading list forever. My husband loves Anne Rice.
