The sound of the rain

It doesn't really rain here during winter, and I was thinking... more remembering... I miss the sound of the soft rain in a winter morning.
I remember waking up to that sound and the feeling to stay snuggled just listening.
It gave me a warning as to what the day would be, not like snow, that is secretive and soundless.
I remember staying home playing cards or other games with my parents. A cup of hot chocolate beside me. And as a background sound the rain falling...
It was winter. We would roast some chestnuts and sweet potato invite a few friends over and voila, the perfect winter day :)
Then at night I would fall asleep with the two most beautiful sounds .... just a few meters away, the waves crashing, and coming from high up, the rain, it was like music.
Do you enjoy not the rain itself but the sound? Or hate it? Or have no opinion one way or another?

I like to sleep with music on, usually sound of rain, ocean or rain forest....my music is on 24/7...mostly new age, sounds of nature or meditation.
Sound if rain is my favorite....:)

right now I am listening to tropical night....:)
my dogs and my cat are sleeping well with this sound....:)

I like the sound of the rain . I don't much like it when rains in the winter, but oh well. It does have a nice sound and can lull you to sleep . Sometimes rain can sound like a nice laughing brook. When ever I was at camp , I would wake up in the morning . Our cabin was right neck to the brook and you never could tell it was just the brook or the rain , until you got up a looked. A rainy day is a perfect time to curl up with a book or just snuggle in a warm bed.Ah you mention he waves crashing , I love that sound too. I live on an island and don't have to walk very far to the ocean .

Yes, I think that most people, even when they like the sound of the rain, like it more than the results of the rain. I"m like that too, of course. Walking up in a muddy path is not one of my favorite activities :):)
I so envy you living that close to the ocean... It's one of the things I miss the most.

I share the same taste with you. But my favourite is boat ride after the rain in the sunny evening.

I grew up in a state with a lot of rain. I'm not missing it at all, as this area would have a serious flood, if that amount of rain happened here. Sorry don't even like the sound of rain, as it makes me sad.

But you have a perfectly good reason not to like it fishmomma. I'm sure that even the sound of rain will bring back some memories that are not too happy.
I'm sure that people living in flooding areas probably don't enjoy rain much. It's like with everything , balance is perfect, other than that is not so good anymore.

I have different opinions, depending on what I need to get done with my day. It can be pretty restful. I like your description of a good rainy day, it reminds me of my childhood. I never tasted a chestnut until fall of 2006, when I went to a Chestnut Roast sponsored by the Dept. of Agriculture in Missouri. I enjoyed it very much. I remember long days playing cards either with parents or my older sister. I need some days like that. I am not really fond of thunderstorms and severe weather. Gentle rain will be okay, especially if we could trade it for the ice and snow. Three weeks ago we had thunder snow storms.

The rain reminds me of a number of things:
*Watering the garden
*ceasing all watering bans
*being allowed to wash our cars
*Seeing our one River,the Murray, fill up
*Reducing the build up of salinity in the Murray & on lands
*Seeing our dams & reservoirs full
*Having plenty of water for koalas in the natural environment
* Reducing the chance of devastating bushfires

I don't hate it, although it can be annoying. Currently the house next door to the left have a gutter issue. It doesn't connect to the pipe or drain so when it rains it clutters down and makes hitting sounds on our side path near the living room window.
I have to admit days when it slinging it down I do wish I had the time or a ladder to be able to fix it myself, although on certain days I do enjoy hearing it abit.

Well, yes , in certain circumstances it can really be annoying. THere was a time that I don't remember for that reason there was this loud ping-ping falling write on top of my air conditioner and that used to irritate me to no end. I like the general sound of the rain but not that loud irritating one.

I love the sound of rain.For me its relaxing,makes me sleepy and only feel for making the couch potatoe.I really enjoy the sound when its warm outside,no noise in the house and i can hear it from a window thats opened up enough just for the smell from a breeze in the trees by my window.

I love rain & the sound of rain, the smell of rain. Especially when I am laying in bed or in watching movies cuddled up to my honey.

I enjoy the soothing sound of rain tapping on my windows, creating beautiful water droplets and giving me permission to stay indoors. When it is raining I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything going on out of doors, putting me in a relaxed mood so I can spend time on those hobbies that I have so little time for. Even if I'm working I feel good about earning money while listening to the raindrops and the people with their umbrellas and raincoats complaining about the gloomy day. I especially enjoy the sound of a hard, driving rain.
