What Made the Beatles, The Beatles

I read and hear arguments about John being better than Paul, that Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles, that George was.... and more. I think that the reason the Beatles were so successful was because of all of them. Paul and John fed of each other to insure than their songs were included on the albums. George Harrison was a very modest guitarist which is emphasized over the years by him allowing other players(even Lennon and McCartney) to play lead on some of the Beatles songs and was in my opinion as instrumental in the sound of the Beatles as any of the others(if not more). Ringo, seemed like the one band member who got on with all the others and being less talented, all the others would band together to help him out. Add to that the influence of George Martin and Brian Epstien and you have the Beatles. The solo Beatles albums always seem to be missing something...like the Beatles! For me the best album was the last recorded, Abbey Road. I think the Beatles put their personal differences aside and not only played the best they good, but, also wrote some of their best compositions. Comments?

I agree. It was definitely how all 4 played and created together. Any other combination would have made completely different music. The fine melodies of McCartney and the lyrics of Lennon but also the way all contributed and formed amazing harmonies. I think the parts created a whole much bigger than any one of the members. The White album was amazing, ground breaking, and incredibly diverse. Abbey Road was one of best and the most polished. I also loved Sgt Pepper....it's too hard to choose one. :)

Thanks for the response. People totally misunderstand how good the Beatles collectively were and how the 4 of them had a unique understanding. All of the ex-Beatles have never been as good individually or have been able to write better songs that when they were Beatles.
