would you pick up money from the street?

How much money would have to be lying on the street before you pick it up? Would you pick up a penny on the street? I normally pick up any amount I see lying on the street and put it in my piggy bank. Over the years, I must have used it to pay for bus rides. Just imagine how many free rides I've used courtesy of generous people throwing away their money? After all, I could not make £1 if I didn't pick up the 1p, 5p or even the 10p on the street.

I always pick up any money that I see in the street or parking lots. It has just as much values to me as the time I spend on here trying to earn pennies. They do add up after a while just as on here. It dosen't take a lot of effort to bend and pick them up.

My thoughts exactly. If the owner does not like to pick it up then I certainly do. It only takes a couple of seconds to pick it up as well. Just imagine earning 1 penny every 2 seconds. That's 30p every minute. Multiply that by 60 and you £18 per hour! I prefer this job to mine! LOL Come on everybody, keep dropping your money! LOL

I too pick up any amount that I see laying on the streets. I consider it as my lucky day if I see money on the streets. Well, not that lucky anyway. I once bought a lottery ticket with the money that I picked up, but sadly I didn't win. Talking about luck! LOL..

I too once bought a lottery ticket with what I've picked up but didn't win. I always feel lucky though whenever I pick up money on the street. I wonder if anybody in mylot have done this and won?

i pick up any amount of money that i see lying on the street... but i didn't encounter it often... for me, money is still money no matter how small it is and i appreciate it... and you are right that you can't make $1 without 1c... so for me, every single cent counts... :-)

Right on! Sometimes I wonder why some people don't pick up the money that they've dropped? Its just foolish to throw away they you've worked hard for. Lucky for us I guess. :o)

I will sometimes pick up money (or more accurately have my assistant do that) if it's a dollar bill or higher. I leave change where it is.
@r0131n (357)

You have an assistant to pick up money on the street? Wow! What if you don't have your assistant with you at the time? Would you pick up any money yourself? How much money does it have to be before you pick it up yourself?

I actually can't ever pick up money myself, since I'm disabled and in a wheelchair. I have an assistant most times to help me with basic stuff like using the bathroom and washing, as well as picking stuff up and doing things like laundry and cleaning. If I found money, they would need to pick it up.

My apologies for thinking otherwise but now I know why you need an assistant. :o) Every little helps no matter who picks up the money from the street. Everything adds up in the end.

I pick up the penny to anything on the street. My mom my kids and a friend of my moms and I go out for walks. To our suprise in a 30 min to hour walk we find a fair bit. The most we ever picked up was a $20 bill that my oldest daughter found. We told her to put it in her piggy bank. With the small stuff we buy lottery tickets which has always come out with a few dollars and free tickets. So we are on the up and up.

What a way to end a family day out. I suppose its just like going out on a treasure hunt with the family. What more can you ask for? Fresh air, exercise, quality time with the family and you get to pick up money and a chance to earn more with it! You have to keep it up now so one day you can be a lottery millionaire and with a healthy family around you. I wish you luck. :o)

That's one thing I don't do and I admire you for doing that. I sometimes just kick harmful objects on the streets to the side, out of the way rather than picking it up.

Since it being winter here in Canada it's a little cold to be going outside to walk but we do go down to the malls and go window shopping and do go shopping as well. But we are there for the walk as well. We make more money in the winter time than we do in the summer spring fall. As well as picking up spare change while walking outside. We also pick up screws, nails so they don't puncture tires either.

Funny you should ask that question.I have a collection of just any money that I have found on the street.Anytime I find any money on the street I pick it up,even if its a penny. After I pick it up I put it in the small compartment that is on the inside of the car door.I hope to fill it up someday so I can fill up the other one on the other side of the front seat.

I too have some coins lying around inside the car so I know I have money to pay for car park. These coins can be from what I've picked up from the street or coins from my pocket which is getting heavy. Depending on the size of your compartments, I would not really suggest for you to fill them all with coins. They can be quite heavy and keeping the unnecessary weight inside the car can in the long cost you more than you think. Your car would need more power to pull the heavy weight. More power means more petrol which also means more money needed to buy petrol. Well, that's me looking at ways to save my money anyway. :o)

Thanks for alerting me to the added weight of the coins in my car.It didn't even cross my mind.I know they can become very heavy.I sure don't want to pay more than I already do for gas.

Money left lying on the street can indeed be a blessing to someone who picks it up. There was a time when I was a kid and I "forgot" to leave myself a bus fare home. It would have been about an hour walk home and I was really tired. I happen to pick the right amount for my bus fare. That was a blessing for me.

I do pick up change that i see on the ground. I save my change and it all adds up. I had 74 dollars all in change a couple times.

That is a lot of change. I've never really let that much change accumulate. As soon as I reach between £5 to £10 then I alwasy find something useful to buy.

That's right, it all adds up. Besides, if someone wants to give you money indirectly by dropping it on the street, they why say no?

I would pick up any amount as long as nobody can see or notice me. Why? Because the owner might still be there and accuse me of stealing his/her money. Or it could be a practical joke that someone is doing to me. Those would be embarassing!

I'm sure if the owner is there then he should have picked it up in the first place. If the coin happen to be next to somebody then I normally ask if they've dropped it, if not then I'll keep it.

Yes, I do pick up a penny. After all.....find a penny pick it up all day long you have good luck:) I am always finding coins on the ground. I have heard that when you find coins on the ground it is a sign from a loved one who has passed on. They are letting you know that they are looking after you. I can't leave any coins on the ground if they are coming from heaven.

I am one of those people that is regularly emptying there wallet into the nearest charity bin or giving coins to buskers or homeless people. This being so i think i am almost the exact opposite of your approach, i think on average i give away about $20-30 per week. Anyway, in answer to the question i have only ever picked up a $20 dollar note that i found on the way to school. However this was quickly spent on pizza and a drink for me and my friends.

You are one of the most fortunate who have money to give. Although I regularly give food and clothing to my local charity for the homeless, I very rarely give cash to buskers and homeless people on the street. It is easy to pick up a $20 note but would you pick up a cent or 25 cents?

My husband and I pick up any amount of money we see on the street. We have a can of pennies that we have found. One year I saved all the pennies that I found for the year. We started January 1st and counted them on Dec 31st. I had well over three dollars in pennies that we had found. This was not including the nickels, dimes, quarters and paper money found through the year (they get spent), only the pennies.

I think I shall try that this year and see how much I can pick up in a year. I haven't picked up anything yet so far though. I guess the state of the economy is letting people pick up every penny they drop so there is nothing for me to pick yet. :o)

I pick up any money that I find that doesn't belong to someone else. Sometimes that has saved my life. On the other hand, I will go out of my to give someone the money they lost.

Its always best to give back what's not yours no matter how much. But if nobody is around to make a claim for it, like in the street, then I'd be happy to keep it.

i don't pick up the 1p and 2p. but i do pick up all of the coins that are above that amount. just like you said, put it in your piggy bank and in a year you have a lot of free money. i once found €50,- on the street, i só picked it up. but if you look closely in my school you can find like 10 bugs a week there... everyone is dropping there money at the machines and everything and don't want to look pore you they just leave it there. so if you want to go for the bug bugs...go to a high school and look ! ;)

When I was at school, there were a few kids with a lot of pocket money because they have well off parents. Its these kind of kids that don't pick up change they happen to drop on the floor. They don't know how hard their parents had to work for that money that they can't be bothered to pick up. I used to be able to pick up some coins around the playground area when I was at school and use it to buy sweets before going home. :o)

Well, i pick up even the lowest price coins from the street. But i dont do that because they might accumulate and form a 1euro coin for example, but because i consider finding coins on the street very lucky. Thats why i dont spend these coins, even if they have a higher value. However it doesnt happen often where i live.

The coins that I've picked up haven't brought me luck yet so I spend it once I get to certain amount. I'm getting something for free one way or another so that is enough luck for me. :o)

I feel that you don't really need to impose a ruling regarding picking up money on the street. A simple common sense and honesty should be sufficient. Look around to see if someone has dropped it and ask people around where the money is before taking ownership.

I do. Sometimes, I am just hesitant to pick it up because someone's might be playing a prank on me. I remember seeing a prank show wherein a certain amount of money was pasted on the ground and bypassers would really take time to get that money only to know that its just a prank. Sometimes its just hilarious!

I've seen a similar program on tv. They are quite hilarious pranks. I sure hope I don't end up being on tv in one of these pranks. hehe
