would you actually WANT to survive?

Last night I went and saw Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne on tour. I LOVE Rob Zombie. Anyhow, it struck inspiration for me to watch House of 1000 Corpses (I didn't get around to the sequel today, but I need to watch The Devil's Rejects) Anyway, House of 1000 Corpses is another take on that horror movie scenario where people find themselves in the home of some crazy folk being tortured and murdered. But there's always that one that "gets away"... and I put that in quotes for a reason because well, if you know horror movies, you know why. But think about it. If you were in a situation where you witnessed your friends being murdered. Saw your boyfriend or best friend turned into "Fishboy" or barely escaped the clutches of some weird doctor satan who wants to perform crazy surgeries on you...all while you're still alive. If you got away from this... would you actually want to? Think of the nightmares you'd have. Think of the memories you'd have. Your friends are all gone. Your significant other is always gone. You were the only survivor in this psychotic weekend of torture and terror and death. Even thinking about a crazy story I read a while back in the news about a mother and a son who were attacked by a gang. The mother was raped by the gang and the son was forced to participate. They weren't killed... but could you imagine having to go on with life knowing that you were just raped by your son? or that you just raped your mother? I always think about this...since I am a horror movie nerd and all. Sometimes I'm just not sure if I'd actually want to surive. I think that living with those images... with those memories... remembering those terrors, would actually be worse than death. What about you?

OMG!! I just had this really long response and it turns out I wasn't SIGNED IN!!! So it erased it! GRRR!!! Okay... First off - Great discussion!!! I would want to survive in that type of horror situation. Mainly for two reasons. One would be that is one way I would NOT want to die. I would find a way to deal with the nightmares and the loss. But dying like that...don't even want to think about it. And the other main reason would be - so that justice could be served. If that meant through careful planning and plotting with me murdering those sick f*cks -- OR -- through the justice system. Their deaths would need to be avenged one way or another not to mention all the other victims as well. The Devils Rejects is a MUCH better movie than 1000 Corpses. I didn't care for 1000 Corpses but I do like Rejects. Though I swear I would not know what I would do if I ever met Mrs. Sheri Moon Zombie because that womans voice drives me nearly INSANE to hear!! Rob's remake of Halloween was terrific but I swear it nearly ruined it for me because she and her voice was in it! And she wasn't being obnoxious like in 1000 Corpses. LOL The one movie scenario I would NOT want to live through however is a Resident Evil or The Stand type situation. I don't think I could handle THAT. Esp the zombies. That's just way too much for me. Though when I dream of them (quite often too LOL) I am always the bad a** running and fighting. Though I don't ever think I could really be that way - the psychology of it all would get to me I think. On the mother and son thing. I think as the mother as hard as it would be I think I would take comfort in the fact that because I had to go through that torture - my son is still alive. And I would know that under non-life threatening circumstances he would never dream of doing that. I wouldn't place blame on him (or at least try my damnedest not to) but rather those that forced him to do so. And I hope to God that they got justice.

I hate when mylot does that! That's true, it's not a very good way to die. Being tortured and all. Justice is another good reason to want to survive but the sad truth is that Justice doesn't always prevail. Take the West Memphis Three for instance. Teenagers arrested for a crime they didn't commit and have been sitting in jail for 15 years now. That's just crazy. Total Injustice. and putting all your weight into justice is tough. Aww... wait, you don't like Sheri Moon? I think she's ADORABLE and I love her voice. Mainly I love her laugh. I think it's so cute and I normally hate that sutff! I haven't seen the Halloween remake yet. I really need to becuase it's ROb zombie and I love him but eh~ The mother and son story was just horrible. I'm not sure what ever came out of that situation.

Oh man it's her LAUGH that 'killed' her for me!! LMAO! Yeah I know justice doesn't always work...that's why I'd be prepared to take on my own justice in this case. :D

I watch lots of horror movies and I never really thought of it that way. I have thought that during the torture and stuff I would rather die and get it over with then continue the torture but never looked beyond life when they got away. It is like they survived and lived happily ever after. But now I see that you are so right. That would be awful. If everyone I loved was gone I would want to be gone too.

There are definitely some horror movies where I"m like "dang... I don't think I'd try to get away." The torture movies especially. Hostel, Last house on the left, saw, hills have eyes, texas chainsaw massacre... to name a few!
