Tornado Weather

Nobody has any clue how scared I get when there is a news flash that runs across the bottom of the television screen showing us a warning that we have tornado warnings or watches in the area. The weather conditions are right for tornadoes this time of the year when the ground temperature is warm but higher up it's cold. The masses clash and we have tornadoes. Guess I won't be online tonight if we do get this nasty weather. I can deal with being away from myLot for a few hours but not the possibility of high winds taking me away, sounds like a Calgon commercial, or taking the house away with all our belongings. Anyone else have a great fear of high winds that potentially could be damaging?

Hello dear carol bee. Here in China we do not have tornado weather, but we have the similar weather, typhoon, which is horrible and causes a lot of damage and loss to the life and their belongings. Every year in the east coast of China in about August, one typhoon comes after another. I myself evidenced the terrible accidents caused by typhoon quite a few times. One time was the roof of a four-story building was pulled up and fell down to the ground floor. Luckily, no one was hurt. Another time was when I was staying in a small town for the summer vacation, I saw many streets flooded in the brown and dark and swift water coming from the mountain roaring down all the way to the town streets. Many country houses are usually ruined by the flood caused by typhoon. But I am very happy that our government officials are always offering quick help to the people suffering from the loss and damage from typhoon and they always keep people well informed before typhoon arrives. Thanks for your discussion.

We didn't have any damage in our area but didn't know it until I woke up this morning. It was a rough night around here last night. Thanks for responding.

I just read about the tornados that riped the midwest, southwest Missouri, southeastern Wisconsin, Arkansas, Illinois and Oklahoma. judge even had to empty a court room during a murder trial in Wisconsin's Kenosha County. These things are scary enough during the summer when they are in season but worse when they come with out being expeced. I lived in 2 states that have a lot of tornados but was lucky enoughtto never have been in one or have one come close to me.

We live in Missouri but the tornadoes were not directly in our immediate area. It was rather noisey all night and did storm but we lucked out. Sometimes we get tornadoes in January when the weather warms up for a few days. Commonly referred to the January thaw. So you know what this kind of weather is like and it's not a whole lot of fun....lol More storms today but nothing major predicted so far. Feel sorry for the people in Springfield, Mo and other areas of the state. Thanks for responding.

Hi, carolBee, what part do you live in? I live in central Illinois and we don't get tornado threats until May. But it has been in the weird 60's today with rain.

tornado - When Tornado is coming
I agree and I can not imagine the people who live there, even there is a warning but how they are feeling when they watch the Typhun ruin they building. I dont like when we have high winds either. in my country also there but not across my village,we called "PUTING BELIUNG" as like Tornado.

I know how you feel. When I was a freshman in high school our house was hit and in was very scary. We all made it but it had done so much damage to our house and the noise was most tremendous. I now get a creepy crawly feeling when I see the weather alerts especially at night. But I live in Illinois and even though we are at a weird temp of 64 degrees right now I don't think the danger starts for us 'till May.

Think it's been downgraded to a tornado watch. It does cover Illinois as well as Missouri. I'm in Missouri. Am listening to local tv for any further updates. I bet you were scared and yet very fortunate for everyone to get out in time. Thanks for responding. Stay safe, carolbee

I heard that on the weather channel that you are under a tornado watch! Yikes! The second week in January and you have to worry about that it's almost unreal! I actually love the wind. But not tornados.

Many years ago, in January, our city was hit really hard by a tornado. Wasn't real close to us but very near the airport. The skies were a funny greenish/blue and the wind was whipping around. Grass was parallel to the ground. I wouldn't be quite so concerned but we have 2 big trees in front of our house and several in back. High winds and trees make for a scary evening. Thanks for responding.
