How bad is the bra for you?

Just the other day, I came across a study report in the newspaper that has positively linked breast cancer to continuously wearing a tight bra. The study says that wearing a tight bra continuously and even sleeping in one, blocks the glands inside the breast and clogs the ducts through which the secretions of these glands flow. Prolonged blockage is a very potent cause for breast cancer among women. Have you come across this information anywhere before (maybe your mom or grandama told you so)? Do you wear the bra continuously and if so, how comfortable is it for you? I would also like to have info from any guys here who know something about this.

Fitting of the bra - Fitting for the bra
It is a well known fact that oiver 90% of women don't wear the proper size bra. We have a place called the "Bra barn". When going here they havea certified women that measures you for cup and around the chest. She then tells you what size of bra to be looking for. She then goes and grabs a bunch of bras that you try on. The key to wearing a bra is to make it feel that your not wearing one. I never wear a bra to be as well as they said not to do this. When sleeping you are suppose to be totally relaxed...

Almost 2 Years ago I was always on the go. Meaning that when I finsihed work I would head out. Seemed like I was spending more time away from Home than when I was at home. I wore a bra all the time and never had a problem with it. The people at the bra barn told me that I was able to wear it as long as I wanted as long as when I was sleeping to let them be free to breath. With being off I just wear a sports bra around for support and when heading out then I will wear a bra.

Thnks for the response. But do you wear a tight undergarment all the time and if you do, are you comfortable with it.

Hello Sudiptacallingu, Thanks for sharing this. The prevailing wisdom (and long-term logic) is that wearing anything 'tight' is unwise. The human body relies on flexibility and movement as a necessary function for health. Constricting clothing impedes that movement, and thus is unwise Personally, I can't wait to get home and change into sweats, no bra allowed. It bothers me more the older I get! I have never personally known anyone who sleeps in their bra. I've heard that such women exist, yet I've never met a one. I simply could not imagine how uncomfortable that would be!

Yes, exactly, very uncomfortable. Me too, the moment I enter home, its out with the dirty work clothes and clean comfortable loose garments with no tight bra. Total comfort for me.

Wearing a bra or other piece of clothing that is tight is never a good thing, especially if it is worn throughout the day (and night). I don't doubt that it can cause health problems when worn for an extended period of time. I know when I forget to take my bra off before I go to sleep I have pains in my chest area the following day. And no, I do not think it is coincidence.

That's why it is not advisable for women to still wear the bra while sleeping. I have heard this a million times from other people especially my mother. :)

I had never heard this before hence this discussion. I wanted to know what you friends of my say on this. And regarding my mom, at 60+, she is always with a bra on even at home. She feels a woman looks immodest without a bra.

No I never came across this information. I think we should go back to the flower power era were women should throw off their bras and burn them in public. I think that more women should be more educated regarding this aspect. If I was a woman I think I would not wear any bra. I prefer natural things. I hate being restrained

Hi sudip, I heard this also from friends and on TV, I love to wear bra with wire, makes me feel more comfortable! But, I heard it's not healthy! Anyway, when I am around the house, I don't wear any bra! Only when I will go out and during the time when I was working too!

I know this is an old discussion but I hadn't noticed it before now hun. I have always been told that it is not good to sleep with your bra on and not to wear your bra so tight that it restricts your circulation. Any item of clothing that restricts your circulation is doubtless bad for you! I thought I'd paste some links to useful articles here from various people: http://www.glamorousamorous.com/article-Glamorous-Amorous-Advice-on-Bra-Fitting-BraFittingAdvice.htm http://www.bravissimo.com/perfectfit/getting-the-perfect-fit/default.aspx http://www.support4women.co.uk/brafittingadvice/general.asp Hope you find out something useful hun. x

There are different sizes of bras suited to the different body measures that women could choose from. Comfort is very important in wearing bras. I have read a lot of informations regarding bras but it depends on the person/woman how she handles the thing for herself. I don't wear bra continuously. When I gotten home from work I remove my bra to relax my whole body. I bought bras that is not tight fitting or straps that mark on my back. I use something that is comfortable and I could breath and relax.

Even I don’t wear tight-fitting bras and I buy the ones with elastic straps so that they can stretch according to my body movements. Even then, I don’t feel comfortable wearing them all the time and the moment I am home, I open and throw them around. I feel so much more comfortable.

I thought that this piece of information was just an "Old Wives Tale"... i hope you put posted the site here so that women who are in mylot would be able to read the whole article... my friends usually warned other friends from wearing tight bra or those that have metal wires as push ups... i never took this warning seriously since i am not that fond of push up bras... but i stopped wearing bra when sleeping...because sleep is more comfortable without them...

I wasn't aware of it. But I'm not a fan of bras either. I wear because of societal demands HAHAHA! I try my best to wear a comfortable pair everyday and even wear sports bra, and not ordinary ones when going jogging. And then I give myself a break once in a while when I won't be seeing anyone. Thanks for commenting in my discussion!
