Two compounds found in plastics, phthalates and bisphenol-A, are now under scientific study and suspicion.
It can cause skin reaction and in many cases serious burn.
I would avoid plastic shoes...

That is horrible and looks so sore. When I was about 15 I went to a swimming pool with my cousins, we walked across the deck and to the main pool at the edge of the pool stepping in a small puddle not unlike the puddles every where on the pool deck. We swam and had fun for several hours and then went home where we showered and got cleaned up to go out for the night. While I was in the shower my feet started to hurt and burn and by the time I got out of the shower my skin was falling off. I went to the hospital right away and by the time we got there my feet were bleeding and I had lost every layer of skin on my feet. Turns out I had stood in a puddle of the chemical that was used to clean the pool and because I was not treated right away I had burnt every layer of skin, I had 3 degree burns on the souls of my feet and up to my ankles. To this day my skin is bad on my feet and several times a year I have to go to the doctor to treat them so to avoid my skin falling off. The doctors tell me this will go on for the rest of my life as my body is rejecting the new skin the grows in. This is not unlike the allergy that I have developed from the use of latex gloves when I worked in home care. I became so allergic to everything that if my body comes in contact with anything it dislikes my skin bubbles up and falls off as if I had a burn. The doctors say it is rare to become that allergic but not unheard of, the worst part for me is my allergies just keep getting worse, now I am even allergic to my own body so if I sweat, cry, or anything that allows my body to release chemicals to my skin I blister up. I guess my point is not everyone reacts to chemicals but those of us that do can have very serious reactions.

Oh my! That's really bad!
Here in India, almost everyone wears those flip flops. I wear one in the house too (because I can't stand the cold floor and we have no carpeting). I've never had any reaction in so many years....but I suppose I got the good stuff.
Oh poor lady! She had to go through so much !
Btw, I usually buy my flip flops from well-known brands in India. I never buy the stuff they sell on the roadside...the cheap ones. Maybe that's why I didn't have a problem so far.

I am allergic to many chemicals used in the manufacture of soaps, and fabric softeners, so I will not be wearing flip flops. I will stick to leather sandals, made either in Canada, Great Britain, or the United States. I do not want to get a rash on my feet. Also they should be careful of stuff they import from China. People work there in horrible conditions and it is no wonder many of the products are unsafe.

That was all over the news. Apparently very few people were affected. This is just another reason why you have to be careful what you buy and if your skin get irritated by a product, you have to stop using it immediately.

I had heard about this sometime ago...good thing I don't wear flip flops...now the flip flops they mention are the ones they sell at Walmart, but I'm wondering if the cheapie ones they would sell at those dollar stores would be the same...That is terrible though...I saw the pictures...ewwww....who would think one could get "chemical" type burns from that???
