Where does everyone stay in New Orleans?

So far, it's where my company choses (the Mariott on Canal Street), but I'm wondering what other sorts of places there are? Can anyone make suggestions/recommendations? I'm considering taking my daughter for a visit one day (she's 14 1/2) and appreciate any suggestions/real-life thoughts.

I cannot really offer a good place to stay while in New Orleans. We always crash at my uncle's house. I know that there are a lot of hotels within the city, and the ones that I have walked through seem rather nice.

I've only stayed at the Marriott myself, but I did get to visit a rather nice place on Bourbon (I have NO idea where, perhaps 1 1/2 or 2 blocks off Canal--it was pouring when I arrived). But now with airfare through the roof and gas also, I don't think we'll be traveling anytime soon! Thanks for the response!

I've never been there, so I don't know.

I stayed at the Lowe's Hotel in downtown right across from the street from Harrah's. It was really nice too. Luckily I did not have to pay for it since it was a business trip. Funny thing is the thing I remember the most of the huge bathroom. The walk in shower was amazing.

Thanks for the answer-I'll keep it in mind! I've been to Harrah's, but it's usually dark, and quite often I've been out strolling with a drink.
