I was mostly ready for our son, but we only just got the cotbed delivered a few weeks before he was born. The most important things are a cot, car seat and a pushchair. Obviously you need a few clothes and nappies, but they can be stocked up on abit at a time. We brought the essentials and stocked up on everything else slowly through pregnancy. We haven't yet got everything for our new baby who due in a few months but the baby can have our sons old car seat and his cotbed, because we are getting him a new bed and then all we need is a buggy and a few little things. ~Joeys wife

You don't need ALL of that to bring a baby home. When we brought our first home we had a bassinet (a used one), a carseat and stroller (they came as a set), a few clothes (mostly hand me downs) and some bottles (since I was formula feeding). We picked up the diapers, wipes and formula on the way home from the hospital. The stroller really didn't get used until she was a few months old. We didn't buy a crib until she was 7 months old and she didn't need any toys until she was 4 months or so old. One thing that did come in handy was a swing. She hated the bouncy seat but loved the swing my cousin got me (one of the few things we didn't buy ourselves). We had very little when she was born but I never missed any of what we didn't have.

There's currently nothing on my baby list, though my husband and I hope to change that soon! :) With our first child we had these things for him by the time he was born: basinet baby carrier 4-in-1 stroller (includes a baby car seat) baby tub diapers wipes newborn clothing I'm sure there are other things on that list, but it has been a few years and my memory fails to remember it all. :P LOL

I have to admit, i never had this problem, i found the best thing for new parents to do what to start buying early - not too early of course, just in case, but once you hit the start of your 2nd trimester, you really should be getting stuck in to your buying, to make sure everything is ready. Even if you get 1 or 2 things a month or so. We bought a carseat first off, being it's the most important thing - otherwise you cant get home unless you hire them. We then bought a bassinet & pram. You wont need a cot for a little while, if you use a bassinet you'll have a few months after birth to sort out a cot. Nappies aren't overly expensive so grab a pack every week or every other week - along with a pack of wipes, then you should be pretty set. Cotton balls you can probably get away with not having anyway, a bouncer is a good idea but you can get them cheap so they wont be hard to find! Depending on how much time you have left & how much money you have available, try buying at least 1 item a week, more if you can & you should be pretty set by the time bub arrives! Good luck!
