Russian couple reunited after 60-year absence Anna Kozlov swore her eyes were playing tricks when she saw the man she had married over 60 years ago emerge from a car in her home village of Borovlyanka, Siberia. The last time she had seen her husband Boris was three days after their wedding in 1946, when he was forced to rejoin his Red Army unit. When Boris returned from service, he found Anna and her family had been purged for being enemies of Stalin and forced into exile. Despite his frantic attempts, the two never managed to reconnect — until a chance meeting six decades later. "I thought my eyes were playing games with me," Anna told the UK Telegraph newspaper. "I saw this familiar looking man approaching me, his eyes gazing at me. My heart jumped — I knew it was him. I was crying with joy." Boris, now 80, had returned to the village to visit his parents' graves when he saw Anna standing outside the house they had occupied together as newlyweds for just a few days. He ran to her and said: "My darling I've been waiting for you for so long. My wife, my life…" The pair stayed up all night filling each other in on the years lost and the cruel circumstances which had torn them apart. Anna's family was banished to a faraway part of Siberia after they were charged with being enemies of the regime. In their new village, Anna's mother tried to convince her daughter that Boris had remarried and that she must do the same. "I didn't believe it and I longed for [Boris] so much," Anna said. "But one day I got back home from work at a timber plant and my mum had burned all his earlier letters, poems and pictures — including our wedding photographs. Anna said she was so distraught about her situation she ran to a nearby barn and planned to hang herself. But her mother foiled the suicide attempt and convinced her to go out with a local man called Nefed, who she later married. Boris eventually lost hope in his search and he too remarried. Over the years both spouses passed away and Anna returned home after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The pair's reunion 60 years on has renewed their love affair, and last year Boris suggested to Anna they should marry again. Anna initially said she was uncertain about being a bride so late in life, but she soon caved in, describing the ceremony as her "happiest wedding".There was never any doubt in her husband's mind. "Yes I had loved other women when we were separated," Boris said. "But she was that true love of my life." You can't help but have stories like this touch your heart! It makes a nice change from all the doom and gloom we generally read and see.....

What a sweet story. And how lucky to have found each other again. I guess when you think about it yes they did marry other people but since they were already married to each other were their new marriages classed as real or legal. Anyway it's a lovely story and thank you for sharing it will us all.

Maybe this story is proof that destiny exists? Or that soul mates will find each other whatever the circumstances? Thanks for responding.

That was touching. I had been having doubts about my marriage and reading this brought tears to my eyes. It stories like this that no-one ever sees and we need stories like this for our coming generation to give hope for the future. Not serial killers and bombs and gas prices. All we need is true love.

I agree that it is a nice change from the standard negative press. We should all be so lucky to experience such devotion in our own lives. Thanks for responding.

It's good to have the story verified further! What I can't understand is seeing that he found her standing outside their "marital home" of 60 years back; why did he not consider to look there in the first place?? LoL. Better ,ate than never I guess! Thanks for responding.
