i know most people get paid per month and some per week. i would like to know if it is cheaper on a monthly basis and would you get more for your money in the way of deals doing it that way than per week.

i ALWAYS tell myself i'm just going to shop for the week, but i always end up shopping for the month (of course with a few trips to the store for things i forgot). now about the saving money part... when you buy in bigger quantities you save more. i buy big packs of meat and seperate it into freezer bags to last all month.

i do it the other way, i go to shop for the week. i end up getting almost nothing that was on my list, then throughout the week i have to go out and get stuff that i forgot.

i bounce back and forth from buying 2 carts full and then running to the store each night. I noticed when i dont buy groceries in bulk when i don't have something i need my family eats out a lot..which is a lot more costly

I grocery-shop monthly - I grocery-shop monthly using a taxi, and the driver must carry the bags up my 9 foot stair case less I get an asthma attack!
I go food shopping once a month. I don't drive so I must rely on a taxi, and those suckers can get outright expensive. They cost $8 to $10 a round trip to the store! * The nice thing though is that the taxi driver carries all my crap up the nine foot stair case preventing me a nice and nasty asthma attack. (I'm allergic to asthma medication and they give me a migraine that can last a week...that I can't medicate!)

For me it is about the time that you spend when you do shopping. If you do it monthly it save you time than if you do weekly. But of course if you do monthly, few things probably need to be refill before the next month shopping come. :)

good way of looking at it and the way you describe it, it seems more apparent to do it monthly.

I go food shopping monthly and buy groceries in bulk because it is cheaper that way. I use to go grocery shopping weekly but I found out I was spending more.

A lot of this depends on the amount of space you have to store things. If you have a deep freezer, then it is more cost efficient to buy meats when they are on sale and stock up, then you can go a month with out buying more. I tend to buy basic things monthly, like meats, canned goods, etc. I am back to the store once or twice a week for other things like milk, bread, fresh veggies. I have two growing boys and they will eat every snack thing in the house no matter how much I have of it, so those things I also buy weekly. I guess, in my case, it's a little bit of both.

i agree, even if you do a monthly shop you still have to go out and get milk and bread!

I currently do my shopping weekly as hubby gets paid weekly. It does seem a bit more expensive to do it this way, but I did learn to buy bulk on the things we use regularly. It can sometimes be a balancing act but if you can spread out your bulk purchases, it can sometimes make the tight budget go just a little further. :)

i get paid on a bi-monthly basis and i get my groceries during that time too. whenever i get short on my grocery, i use my credit card to buy somethings that i really really need and just reserve the payment on the next billing period.
