This is a very bad trend in India. In every taklent hunt in T channels, SMS polls are there. I think it has become the main parameter to choose the winner. Can you think despite judges, SMS polls can really choose the talent? I totally do not support this. it is biased and people from certain reginal advantages get preferences.

I understand your concern. Well, producers of talent shows lately mostly rely on SMS polls. They overlook the real talents and skills of the contestants. What they are more after is the popularity of the contestants. This is really a bad trend.

May be in a country where there is no sycophancy, influence of one particular relgion or caste or creed like Europe it may be effective. In countries like India, people are divided about the sectarian or caste feelings or regional feelings. Probably you are referring to selection of singers in TV. I just do not like it.Instead of SMS business, they should choose best musicians and knowledgeable persons as judges and by far that is better. Sometimes the candidates who participate, in order to win, cavass like politicans and offer paid telephone to vote for them. As it can be seen by us, the real talented person invariably lose in the final because that person cannot muster strength to get maximum number of sms through poll.

hi subha! ^__^ that's also a very popular trend here in the Philippines. talent searches become contests among who has the most number of acquaintances, fans, relatives and friends with cellphones that can be used to vote via text messages for them. its not because of the talent anymore, it becomes a matter of cellphone loads. i know how annoying it is because i used to watch a talent search before and i was betting on someone who was really talented with good singing and dancing talents and all and the one who were always on top of the sms polls was someone with only a nice face but with less talents. so i figured, that person must have a lot of acquaintances voting for that person. .

dear subha, well it really depends on the 'voters'... it is trend in my country also nowadays, for talent-shows to select the winners via sms votes. unfortunately most of the voters in this country are young people - mostly girls - who'd normally vote for... you guessed it... looks over talents. only a handful would really vote for the talented participants. now.. if you see the american idol - i think the americans are really 'matured' voters - all the winners of that show - are really talented people, and have become international stars. but there is also another point to consider.. even if the participant is talented - but not popular with the crowd - big possibility - he/she might not get good album sales when releases his/her album... compared to those who have already have a massive fan base from the sms voters.. so in the end... the voters - they are the ones who buys the album, buys the concert tickets - it is 'their demand' - and they have chosen who they want 'to buy and support'... in time.. i believe we too, will become like the american audience - and choose the talented ones to be winners.

I don't like the sound of it, often they use sms because of the huge amounts of money that they can potentially generate. I don't support this because it feels like the most popular ones would win. Like if you had 2 final contestants, one is a great talent but doesn't have looks, the other one's opposite. I think the looks would have won or something like that.

Yes, I do agree with you subha12. SMS polls are never the correct way of choosing good talent. It tends to become biased especially in India. There is too much of hype over this recent trend.

I never believe in SMS poll way of choosing at all ..but as far as Indian talent is considered I think its a total failure ..I feel that people in India, rather than voting in favor of talent they vote for the region..I have seen that in many shows and moreover participant himself recognises himself from a region and asks people from his region to vote for him...I guess is this an political election or a talent show??..
