Another post made me think of this. How many of you have a step mother in law? I do. When introducing her to people I just say mother in law. If you have a mother in law and a step mother in law do you difference between them when introduing them? My son calls them both Grandma. So including my mom, he has 3 grandmas. How does your family deal with / view step parents in laws and step grandparents and thier roles in the family?

I do have a step-mother-in-law. I just tell people she is hubby's step-mother. Thankfully they live out of town so we don't encounter the intro situation very often. None of the kids from the first marriage call her Mom. 3 Grandmas? My poor son (yea right... "poor", more like spoiled) has 4 grandmas, 3 great grandma's and 1 great great grandma (made up of a mix of my family, DH family, DH step-family, exs family). They all have different things that want to be called to make things worse some of them care called different things by each grandchild. Right now, the only people living close by are my mom & dad, my grandmother, and hubbys mom & step-Dad. There are not many role problems. My entire family loves hubby's family and see no problem with them treating my son like he is a grandchild. We every now and again get together as a whole family I find that to be really cool because when I was growing up the grandparents on both side of the family HATED each other so we had completely different holidays for everything.

LOL Yeah poor grandbaby... its a bit funny because our is son my hubby's mom's and his dad's only grandbaby. Its like they compete to see who can be the best grandparent. And it doesn't help that practically on a monthly basis my huband's brother will switch off which one he lives with so they alway know what the other has been up to. They're all good grandparents to my son. I just have a warped sense of humor and find it humorous.

Up until my son was 5 he was the only grandchild when my nephew was born. On my exs side he still is the only grandchild and extra spoiled by them because he sees them maybe twice a year (they live out of state). On my hubbys side, my son was the only grandchild for some time (even before DH and I were married they still thought of my son as a grandchild), my SIL had a baby in July so he isn't the only one. However DHs mom & Step-Dad spoil my son because he is their only grandchild that lives here (my SIL lives w/her Dad & step-mom because the step-mom is a SAHM and can watch the baby while she attended college classes during the day).

i think I have both. But I am not really that closed to both of them. Did not often meet them too since we are living in different country. So there is no big problem about it. :)
