Many people will be celebrating Valentines Day. But I don't. There is no bible passage that new testament christians celebrated valentines day! As a Christian, are celebrating valentines day?

I'm not here to judge you, but to inform you this. Obviously the truth is that Valentines Day is not in the Bible - But is it biblical? If you are to trait back in the early days of the Bible, pagans, pharisees, persians and other people throughout their time celebrated holidays and different festivals - but those back then were serving other gods, putting their own offerings to their own masters and lords. Ask yourself what is the celebration of Valentines - a time where two people love each other that hold a special time - it's a tradition, but it is not a tradition that would go against God nor do people have the tendency to do so. They don't break offerings, burn incense, set up altars of wooden or stone idols - which was like that in pagan history. Christ himself walked in this earth sharing in people's humanity, without sin, but he too celebrated, partied, went to festivals, and brought people closer to God. You as a person, a Christian should look at it more on a brighter side - remember God isn't a low or small God - but has wisdom, common sense and is not foolish to know the hearts of men - which he does. Takes wisdom to understand the heart and motives why people celebrate Valentines Day - when two couples who love each other to share a special day, love each other - that's a beautiful thing and shares a great art. Even Christians can celebrate Valentines Day while they have the Lord with them - because it evolves in love. Not paganism, not other gods and so forth.

Yes Jesus went to parties but he didn't celebrate any holidays. Read your bible.

well this is the first time I heard of Valentine’s Day and the Bible. All along we knew that it had no biblical reference and was celebrated in memory of St. Valentine and his open defense of love. I had no idea that it had religious connotations. Here in India lovers generally have a great time enjoying themselves with gifts, goodies and spending time with each other. It’s a big occasion on the lovers’ calendars and financially speaking it’s a big day for shopowners and manufacturers too. Why do we have to bring religion into everthing?

It's not about religion but how we live based on biblical standards. Thank you for your response!

And we are told not to follow the ways of the world; I think Valentine's day, as well as other man made holidays, are 'ways of the world' and not looked upon as something we, as Christians who believe this way, should follow. "Let each man work out his own salvation with fear and trembling".

Ok question for you, who said a holiday has to be biblical in order to be celebrated? Thanksgiving isn't in the bible either. I get your point, sort of, but I celebrate holidays because I want to spend time with loved ones, not because they are in the bible.

Also, based on another response I saw from you on the previous page, I celebrated V-day for years before I was married and never did anything against the bible. So you are very judgemental to think that everyone who celebrates Vday is out doing bad things.

Pfft, not celebrating it this year. As for the rest of the topic. Everyone's got a right to celebrate whatever they want. You or anyone else have a problem with it, whatever. Have a cup of Don't Care and join the line of Will Never Answer complaints. Plenty of "holidays" have been commercialized in their own fashion, but people still find more fufilling ways to celebrate (sharing time with family, friends, loved ones, children, doing something nice for others, goodwill). Of course this varies with each holiday but I've seen plenty of holidays (the secular, the non-secular and other foreign holidays) I've seen them bring some good out of people and overall a lot of them are great times. I ask anyone what is wrong with that. And no, "blasphemy" is not an acceptable answer, just a worthless, pointless and meaningless response.

I want to shed some light on this because I too believe in God - I know that the bible in no way mentions about celebrating valentines - but i do know the bible mentions about men judges men by appearance but the Lord judges the heart. Also in proverbs it says that the Lord tests the hearts of all men. The truth is celebrating a holiday has nothing to do that condemns you - God judges the heart if you love him and obey him. Even Jesus in his time celebrated holidays, parties and went with sinners not because just to party but to share the good news and bring everyone to God to change their evil ways. Christians were given free will and no boundaries, but not to indulge in the sinful nature. Of course many who love God must avoid all evil - it is not evil if someone celebrates Valentines Day because for someone who loves. So then again it is not God that judges what holiday you celebrate, but according to the scriptures will judge the motives of the mind and heart. So i say no more proving or trying to say who is wrong or right for celebrating valentines day. Because Christians were called to be like Jesus, love one another, preach the good news and be an example to the ones who are lost. As it is we do live in a world of evil, and in order to win those over to Christ there is a saying that we become all things to all men. We were called to love, because even Christ showed compassion when he saw people who were like a sheep without a shepard.

Say No to Celebrating Valintines Day. - Its all a lie about how good it is. Its not in the bible and God never said celebrate it and it does have a evil back ground just read www.britannca.com
I know its not in the bible. Jesus never celebrated it and never mentioned it eighter. If you read some history on it, its a horrible back ground for the holiday like http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9064955/Saint-Valentines-Day-Massacre I as a Christian won't ever celebrate it and don't understand why people do. Why do they say its a good day to celebrate? When Jesus didn't celebrate it and its not in the bible. In the book of Matthew Jesus says follow me. That means do as he did and not what man does alone. We should all follow the bible to be happy in this world.

There is no biblical passage that says we can celebrate V- Day. But there is also no passages that forbid us. So I don't see how it can be unchristian in itself.

Yes, I celebrate Valentines day, not because of St. Valentine though, I do just because it is fun to have a day to celebrate love with my wife. As for whether or not there is a Biblical passage or not, that is true that there isn't. Although, do you put up a Christmas tree at Christmas? Or give presents? I don't know of any passages in the Bible that talk about that either. Check out my blog! http://seekingtheking.blogspot.com/

I do not celebrate Valentines Day as such. I may just buy a small gift for my boyfriend and that is about it. And I do not follow it like I have to every year. I love the word of God and always try my very best to live according to his laws.

no, valentine's day doesnt have a biblical history. in fact its quite the opposite. like alot of christian holidays, its roots lie in pagan traditions as a roman festival of lupercalia. a festival of fertility. the christians recast the holiday as a feast day somewhere back in the 1st century, and it has since evolved into the candy & cards tradition most now celebrate.

Well, I respect you for being holy and based everything from the bible. However there are things that we need to use a little bit of our common sense. Yes, I do agree with you that not a phrase in the Bible mention about Valentines day however God always emphasis on LOVE including the 10 commandment. To me I don't see any harm to celebrate Valentines day with our love one so long as it is not against the bible (word of GOD), don't you think so?
