How to ask for an increase at work....

It has always been a puzzle to me how I can ask for an increase at work. I have been working with my boss for 4 years and my salary is the same as when I started. Although, I get Christmas bonus which has increased two years ago. I feel it is still not enough considering that all my proposals make money for him. There are times he is out of town, and thats when i step up and take on more responsibilities. There were times, I even do stuff that are beyond my job description like carry heavy stuff and go to far off places. It's difficult to ask for a raise because I don't want to be branded as selfish and ungrateful. I should be grateful that I have a job but I know I earn my keep and for my own self-confidence, I feel I should be rewarded for all the hard work I put in. Whats the bottom line now? I will start by asking for it and say that times are hard and prices are going up and I need a raise to keep up. Hopefully that will work.

You deserve more than reward my friend but you today it's up to your boss to add you and it most of the case due to influence you have on him and his business. But I suggest you to been reward but not to ask because most of the case if you ask for reward he will not acept and will have control on you. Anyway welcome to mylot and hope you'll have a great time in here. All what you have to do to earn a little extra is to participate to discussion by posting respond to discussions in your interests and started discussion. You you can earn too by responding to new users discussions and on posting photos.Find more information in the faq section down this page.

Are you the only employee work for your boss? If yes, you can ask him when he is in a good mood or just joke about it to see his response, then you can tell the chance of paid rise will be high or low. If no, how about the other employees? Have they ever asked the same question? Another issue I am quite concern is if it is difficult to find a job in your region. With your four working experience, you suppose can find another similar job with higher pay easily. When you ask your boss for the paid rise and he said NO, you can find another job and leave him.
