Teaching how to crochet

I'm having a bit of a problem. My 9 year old daughter wants to learn how to crochet and I'd love to teach her. Our biggest issue is the fact that I am right handed and she is left. Its been a real challenge but I think she migh have the basic chain down. Now I got to figure out a way I can show her how to do single crochet stitches! When I showed her the chain I worked on doing it left handed but I don't think I can do the single crochet, it was hard enough doing the chains. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I started learning to crochet when I was around 8 years old. I learned from my Mother, who is right handed and from my Grandmother, also right handed. I am, of course, a leftie! They didn't really make any special exceptions for me, but I did get it. In fact, I've surpassed them both in crocheting abilities over the years. I'm now 40 and crochet quite well, but it takes time. My best advice would be to assure your daughter that she's doing a great job and keep plugging away at it. Learning to crochet proficiently takes a lot of time and the only way to get there is to just keep at it. There will be many little projects that will likely end up in the trash, but when you have that first thing that you made that turns out the way it was supposed to, it's all worth it.

Thanks. Do youc rochet right handed then? Is it possible to teach her that? My dad was a leftie and when he played softball he batted right handed.

I do many things right handed, such as using scissors. I never could get the hang of left handed scissors for some reason. But I do crochet left handed. It took me a while to really become proficient at it, but it takes everyone a long time to get good at crocheting. The key is diligence and just sticking with it and realizing that it WILL get easier for her. I know that doesn't really help, but assurance is all I can really offer.

I don't know if it's possible to teach her to do it right handed. That really depends on your daughter. Some left handed people would find it very hard to do. I, personally, couldn't do it. I've tried and it just doesn't work for me, but then I'm not as ambidextrous as some left handed people are.

I was hoping that you could tell me how to do the double chains because I want to make a throw like and all I can do is single. But to youre question just sit down with her and show her and let her try on her own.

To work a double crochet you put the yarn over your hook before you put it into the chain, pull the hook through 2 of the loops on the hook and then through your next too, add me and message me if you need more help and thanks for the help!
