Discussions in popular interest....

Just curious... Do you start a discussion in a popular interest in the hopes of getting a lot of response or do you start a discussion in a interest in the hopes of meeting other members who would be able to 100% relate to your discussion?... I have started discussions in less than known interests but the insights of the responses are mostly well thought of... I see that the mylot.com interest is very popular and most likely... discussion started here would garner 10 or more responses... but most of them are one liners and some are actually weird... So what say you?...

You raise a nice question here. I can't tell... I guess it depends on the issue and the interest it raises amongst people. It also depends on how people view the author... if you have many friends with whom you discuss a lot, I guess they would respond to your discussions, many times, even though they have nothing to say in the certain issue... Many times, people do not read the former responses and just throw what they got (for the prize of 1 cent...) - hence, your linearity... One could guess some issues would be more interesting and therefore attract more responses, but one can never know. I once had many active friends here, who aren't so active today, so most of my "usual audience" is gone... and I get less responses... So I post, and I respond, and I find new friends. I don't do myLot for the money - I do it for the fun (otherwise, my answers would have been much shorter... :)). What do you think?

I actually have more than one hundred friends in my list but only a handful who regularly respond to my discussion... i think i like it that way because i i really get nice well thought of responses... and i love responding to theirs because they tend to start discussions that are unique or new here in mylot... i guess they are like you who are here in mylot, not for the money but for the fun of it... thank you for the response...

I think you are right in your observation. may be starting in popular interest gain so many responses. there are other factors too like content, popularity and all. But i only start when the discussion is truely related to that interest, My observation is taht even mere discussion can gain you more response if your friends are supportive and you are very popular in mylot.

Your last sentence is very true... that is why i always respond to newbie telling them to find friends who will support them by responding to their discussions... i am fortunate that i have friends like these in my list and you are one of them... so i always reward them with a positive rating... thank you very much for the response...

I start discussions whenever there is some topics on my mind and then I will pick an interest close to the topics. I just can't start something because of a particular interest that I know I will get more response. I try to at least start engaging discussions so everyone would be willing to share, I am definitely still working on it *smiles*.

Welcome backe wondericequeen!!! I guess those who are serious in mylot would always consider discussion and responses that are engaging and serious... and a lot would also consider the interest of other members rather than their own... thank you very much for the response... and i look forwad to responding to your new ones...

Hi aseretdd, Usually I start a discussion on a topic which will be useful to others. sometimes I get very little responses, but I get satisfied that atleast those have got my message. I do not write any discussion exclusively to attract people to get respond. My postings will be purely on my interest and I want to share the information with other members. Good Luck.

I had a discussion with only 1 response but i was so glad because that really meant the world to me because of what that particular member wrote... so i guess a lot members here are really in for quality rather than quantity... thanks for the response...

When I start a Post, I just hope that I can spark an interest in an interesting and pleasant discussion. I do not always get a lot of people, but it is sometimes very interesting which is what I hope for. Shalom~Adoniah

I am glad that your objective in starting a discussion is good... i always see discussions asking how to get a lot of responses... but the question should be how to get meaningful and well thought of responses...thank you very much for being the first one to respond to this discussion...
