This story was released today. I cannot believe how disrespectful and close minded some people can be. Heath Ledger was an ACTOR for God's sake! To be honest I find this disgusting. So much for tolerance. Good old misguided religious fervor gone wrong once again..... A radical American church plans to picket Heath Ledger's memorial service because of his portrayal of a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain. Members of Westboro Baptist Church, known for picketing the funeral of US soldiers who died in Iraq — arguing homosexuals are the cause of the war, said Ledger is now in hell, OK! magazine reports."Heath Ledger thought it was great fun defying God Almighty and His plain word; to wit; God Hates F*gs! & F*g-Enablers!" the church said in a statement. "Ergo, God hates the sordid, tacky bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as Brokeback Mountain and He hates all persons having anything whatsoever to do with it."The Kansas based group is renowned for their anti-gay stance and run numerous websites such as GodHatesF*gs.com. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) said Ledger would forever be remembered for his groundbreaking role as Ennis del Mar in the movie."His powerful portrayal changed hearts and minds in immeasurable ways," the association said. Reports are suggesting that Ledger's funeral will take place in his hometown of Perth after his body was transferred to New York's Frank E Campbell funeral chapel before the trip. A memorial service is expected to take place in Hollywood later this week ahead of his burial. The star was found dead in his Manhattan apartment yesterday and police suspect a drug overdose as the cause of death.

These Westboro people make me so angry. I just do not understand how they think they are doing anyone any good with their stupidity, or even how they expect to further their own agenda with these actions. I've known quite a few people that have actually been turned off to both their religion and their moral stances by their bad behavior... who might otherwise have agreed with them! This kind of petty hatred just makes me happy I'm not part of their faith.

I don't really understand it either. Wouldn't their efforts be better spent on trying to help feed the poor or clothe the homeless or something?? Thanks for responding.

Yes, those are excellent suggestions for how they could better expend their energy! I do a lot of charity and volunteer work, and I feel it's definitely more rewarding than running around condemning people!

lol...I've been waiting for something like this to happen. It's a good way for people and organizations to get their names in the media. I've read some pretty nasty stuff about this poor guy and I think it's sad that people can be so mean at a time like this.

Actually you have made a very true observation. There is always some leech or group of leeches that use the misfortune of others as a catalyst for publicity or other gains. Thanks for responding.

Fred Phelps is a very deranged individual and I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he goes through his final judgment on the way to those pearly gates. Apparently he and his following and beliefs are an embarrassment to the common decency of the United States. So what's wrong with some people. Maybe Fred Phelps is in fact homosexual and he is so afraid to come out of the closet that he has gone to major lengths to cover up his desires. Maybe we should start a website explaining to the world that Mr Phelps needs allot of love and support while he goes through his neurosis, or psychosis and opens up to the general public. It would do him good, don't you think! May Heath's journey take him home.

Actually Tetchie your analysis of the situation may not be as far fetched as some might think..... From a psychological perspective there have certainly been many cases of people that harbour secret desires or beliefs; yet their internal struggles with these desires and beliefs cause them to over compensate with an opposite and negative projection of their true feelings. Thanks for responding.

They're using God's name in their campaign of hatred. I think they're the ones who will go to hell. Perhaps they think they are so perfect they might as well rewrite the entire Bible. Let the man with no sin cast the first stone.

Unbelieveable! If these people go through with this every last one of them should be arrested. How low can you go to trample a mans grave? These people need to have some respect for Heath Ledger and his family. The last thing his family needs to see at a time like this are bible beaters. Heath wasn't gay for goodness sake! He was an actor and simply played the role of a gay man.

Exactly! He was an actor playing a role; and he played it well too. These idiots are nothing but attention seekers. There is even a part of me that resents the fact that we are actually giving them exposure by discussing them in this topic! Thanks for responding.

Doesn't surprise me at all. When that movie came out, it caused quite a stir amongst the gay bashing community.

Well there is no doubt this movie caused a stir. It was more than likely a deliberate intention for the producers etc for it to be seen as somewhat controversial. But there are backlashes and there are extreme measures. These type of idiots are no better than Islamic Fundamentalists in a sense. Thanks for responding.

There are definitely some sick individuals out there. I am disgusted by some of the news channels writing that he had a $20 dollar bill rolled up in his apartment. How is that ANYONE else's business? Why do they have to write stuff like that to make people look bad. It's rude, disrespectful and wrong! Leave this poor family to greive without running his name into the ground.
