What will you do with that "extra" money Bush is sending you in June?

What will you do with your new found wealth? - man with money

I have to laugh because it's supposed to be so that we can help the economy and go out and spend. What a laugh! Everyone I know is so far behind in bills that the first thing they will do is pay them. Then of course there's my son and his fiance who will figure out a way to spend it on something the absolutely have to have...lol...but as long as they catch up on their bills I don't care. My daughter is in such a hole that I'm hoping this will help pull her out. Now that I have my little one day a week job it looks like I might even get something out of the deal and of course I can use it and will pay a bill with it. Are you excited about the prospect of this money coming...eventually? Are you planning on what you want or need to do with it?

Actually, I will probably TRY to save it. Last time we got one of these "refunds", our companies failed to take out the necessary amount of taxes in the first place and the "rebate" had us owning a huge amount to the IRS for that tax year. It took us 10 months of additional payments to the IRS to get ourselves out of debt to them. So, we will TRY to save it until we know for SURE that we won't get stuck owing the IRS as a result. Then, if it is safe, we will spend it on what ever we need at the time - car repairs, dental expenses, etc.

The confusion all came about becasue it was a "refund" of the taxes on the first $x,xxx of your earned income. BUT, word of the "tax change" came down to our companies and they then adjusted our withholding so that we never PAID taxes on that part of our income. So, we received and spent our "rebate" AND our companies withheld less tax from our pay for the rest of the year. You can't get a "rebate/refund" from something that was never withheld in the first place. So, when tax time came around we owed hundreds of dollars and, of course, we didn't have that type of money available. The "rebate" made us happy when we got and spent it; but, the following year was miserabel.

Doesn't that figure? Hopefully the IRS won't mess up this time. I hate when I hear anyone owes the IRS....such a ridiculous situation.

So, what the heck is he thinking? Does he really think it's going to go back into the economy? I don't think so!

We're going to use most of it to pay off some bills. After we pay off those bills we will be able to afford a good vacation that has been long overdue.

But even if you're using it on bills it'll still work itself out. This isn't the first time this has happened. and even so... it's the stupid belief that you give more to those who have money than those who need money. so the little bit I'll get won't do me much good at all.

Exactly, my entire family will be using whatever each one is entitled to in order to pay bills. Is it June yet? Unless I get a decent paying job, I will be hurting by then. Take care and wish me luck! Thanks.

I will use it to pay my taxes. Its not going to help the economy and just means my credit card will be debt free. I'm hoping it helps everyone else be debt free.

I exercised some stock options in June that is going to leave me with a tax bill of at least $16K for federal alone (and I dread to think what the state of California is going to charge me) So I highly doubt I'll be seeing any money from anybody. Unless anyone want to voluntarily contribute to my PayPal account? :D Yes, my credit balance is now zero and I have a brand new iMac computer, and I only exercised half my options so I'm not in the poor house yet ...

Being a single mom, mine will definitly go to bills. Of course it will help but I doubt I could be nearly as excited as the 2 income families who are in a better position to just go out and buy something fun with it. The rebate is not really meant to help the poor. It is meant to help those that are doing "ok" be able to have some money to blow. It would be really nice if something were done to help those that are really struggling to get by.

We get quite a bit back in taxes and we are using that to pay up some bills so we don't have to worry about them later. We are also going to buy some stuff, and save some. When we get the rebate money, we are planning on taking a vacation around that time so some of it will get spent on that. I also want to save some of it.

I remember that everyone forgot that they had to add it to thier income the last time he did that. I wasn't worried...me and my husband didn't get it then...I think you had to have a child claimed on your previous taxes, and his ex had claimed his son that year. I actually wouldn't be surprised if some reason came up that we don't get it again, I won't hold my breath! (Yep, get pessimistic sometimes, lol!) It's the same with the casinos they just had us vote into PA for property tax relief. That's the biggest reason they were voted in, and now they're talking about not using all those profits for property taxes after all, maybe they'll just increase sales tax to help with property taxes! Argh, how the heck does that help??!! We're just paying it somewhere else! And where are all these big profits from the casinos ending up?? But, if by some chance we do get the rebate or whatever it's being called, it will go to....property taxes. Vicious cycle, huh? Lol!

For some reason I'm thinking it's going to be different this time. I haven't finished reading all about it yet but what I have read leads me to believe that it is. Yes, it's a vicious circle for everyone.

Frankly, I think the whole idea is absurd. The government is going to take money that they have taken from us to use for the costs of running the country and fighting the war, etc., and give it back to us so we can make some of us think they are doing something good for us. But if they used that money to reduce the national debt we'd really all be much better off. That little bit of money that each of us gets is going to cost us lots more in the long run. Mine will go to pay bills, too. If I could trust the government to use it to pay down the national debt I might consider giving it all back to them!

Yeah, it's those words 'trust' and 'government' so close together that make ya a bit nervous! I agree with what you are saying!

Extra money???? You mean someone is going to give me some money? I'll take it, I'll take what ever I can get and gladly spend it - bills, food, gas guess it depends on how much I get. I suppose I really should read the news more often.

I'm surprised at how many people didn't know about this. I even checked the discussions to make sure nobody had started one before I did and was very surprised to see that nobody had. I think the best information about it is on cnn.com...you should check it out.

I'll have to check into it or maybe not - I wonder if they'll just send it to me without me doing anything. What a great surprise that would be to get some unexpected money. Hey I'll be happy with the extra (if any) from myLot for the BR - hugs and thank you dear.

If the deal dosen't fall apart like it could when the Senate gets it and trys to reconcstuct it I will be paying some bills off and my son's birthday is in July so I will be buying him a birthday present then I will put the rest up to buy school clothes and supplies. You need to make at least $3000 a year to get a refund you would get $300 I don't know it that menas your SSI and working income combined or just working income though. As for paying taxes on it no you do not have to pay taxes on it this is what you consider a rebate of your 2007 tax refund it is money that you would have got back on the tax refund if it would have been done earlier. I hope the deal does not fall apart when the Senate tries to change things I could really use that money.

From what I'm reading it's already been passed in the House and is going through. They are also saying that even people on SS who don't work are going to get something. Since I work I'm sure I will too.

How many times since Bush has been in office have we heard that we are going to go into a depression? It's always either a depression or a repression with him....I'm so happy he's out of here soon.
