Is Reading a hobby or habit for you?

Reading is a good habit. Some of us are using it a hobby. By both ways it is worthwhile. But we should be care about our reading. It can even change us a lot. Once a famous philosopher told that tell me what are you reading, I shall tell you who are you. Yes reading change our life both positively and negatively. If we read good materials we will be a good person. I mean our thought and behaviors will be like that. vice versa, bad materials change us badly. So let us try to read more and more good books and can change our world accordingly. Are you agree with me? http://free-articles.blogspot.com

To me i can't decided is reading is a hobby or a habit but i do love to read. i just pick up and book and i can get lost in it in no time at all. I am very glade that i love to read because it has rubbed off on my children who are now learning how to read on their own. they always have their head into one of our many books that we have here at home and when they are done they will sit down and talk about what they read. so maybe its a habit but a good one that has rubbed off one the children. books can take you to so many different and wonderful places that you can't normally go to because of money and time or just because they have settings in the past. Oh i love to read the plot lines.

Thank you for your opinion.Really it comes out of your heart and I can understand your feeling when you express your thoughts. Keep it up with reading but don't indulge in this much. When you read you must be aware of yourself and the situation etc. etc. Thanks a lot.

it used to be for fun as a kid, then in school, a necessity, and now as an adult i do it for a little of both. I always read my emails, and the newspaper everyday, but i have not lately had the time to sit and read a good book, but now i just might have to find the time!

Reading is definitely a habit with me. There isn't a day goes by that I don't pick up a book and read it. I love all kinds of subjects. I read as opposed to watching television a lot of times. So I would have to say that reading is a habit for me. I don't know so much that a book can make you either bad or good. There is more to it than that. A lot of things contribute to whether you are a good person or a bad person. You can't lay that at the foot of a book.

I believe reading can only help our illiterate society and help open up minds. I used to read all the time before my car accident. Then after my car accident, I suffered severe head trauma, I don't read as much. But every day I am reading more and more. I think that trying reading more is helping my mind. Soon I will be back to my old self which is reading every spare moment I get.

hi blossom123. I treat reading as a hobby, I enjoy it so much and I would like to have more free time to read. I think reading broaden our mind so it isgreat way to spend your spare time. I am not sure if reading bad materials makes us bad. It depends on the person - if someone is wise would stay wise and won't copy bad standards. take care, jazgottt.

Hi blossom, I agree that reading is indeed a good hobby, so I insist to read at least a page or more daily so as it could be a good habit for me. Once reading becomes our habit it will automatically develop into a daily practice. I think not all the thoughts and views of the author or the materials in a book are totally good or bad, positive or negative, we have to use our intelligence and discretion to excess what is good and positive from the book we have read.

It is a way of life, that is for sure. When I was in college some of the professors were very dictatorial about what we were supposed to read and NOT READ and they really put down materials that were not on their approved lists. Needless to sasy I ignored that and read every single thing I could get my hands on. Your discussion reminds me of the premise behind the wonderful story Don Quixote, where the lead character was accused of damaging his mind by reading romance novels. Actually, I don't have time to read romance novels, but rather I like to read history and biography and How-To Books. But I seriously cannot pass a day without reading.

For me, reading was neither a habit, a hobby nor an obsession. Well, that's not 100% true, because when I was schooling, I did have a habit of reading but these were mostly confined to mystery or detective books like the Hardy Boys series or accounts of the Lochness Monster or UFOs. But as I grew older beyond 16 years of age, I read less and less of novels and stories, and turned to reading newspapers and some magazines more than anything else. I have been having this "reading habit" (if you can still call it that) for many years till now, and novels numbering 100's of pages don't interest me now. So if you bring me to a bookshop today, I will not be interested to browse the novel section. You will more likely find me in the sections that relate to hobby like cars, interior decoration, computers, cooking and architecture. I'm not sure though if reading makes a good person, but I definitely feel that the more one reads, the more one broadens his knowledge about things, sharpens his intelligence and thinking process, and helps improve his writing.

I would not say it is a hobby, or a habit. More of an obsession. I read almost anything, and am know to always have a book somewhere. I do not think in terms of bad books, but good books, are the ones you read time and again.

I agree with you that books tell a lot of a person's character. Books are like your friends. The books you read and the friends you go out with reflects the kind of person you are. Although an individual's interests are susceptible to change still that interest shapes a person's individuality and personality. Some may find change refreshing and embraces it, but some may frown at it. It also depends on the mood one is in. If he/she is feeling lonely and rejected he may choose to read exciting novels. The bottom line is...You are the person you choose to be.

Personally depending on the book I can spend anywhere up to the entire day reading it. So i guess i would classify reading as a habbit mostly. Iv'e found its evoloved itself from a habbit from when i was told to read specific books for english class. As for the type of books you read changing one's self I agree. It may not completly alter someone but they definatly influence people in their day to day actions.

I considered it as a hobby because I won’t read a particular moment because it’s a habit of mine to read at that moment. I read because I like reading. Usually I read before sleeping, I keep books on my bedside. But sometimes if I’m tired I let passed it. I love reading really; I make sure I bring something to read in my bag in case when I’m on the go I have something to turn to.

Even if it is a joke, I didn't mean it as a joke. Really you are a good person. Read more and know more. Wish you all the best and thank u for your response.

I love to read. It is a great hobby to have. You learn so much from books and to use your imagination. It is one of my favorite things to do. Plus it helps keep our minds active. You cannot go wrong with reading.

I am constantly reading, but they're generally Harliquin Romance type books. I easily read one, and sometimes two, a day. Drives my husband nuts, but since it's the only form of entertainment that I endulge in, he doesn't complain to much. It can get expensive, so I try to check our local Freecycle group for books before I go out and buy some. I have gotten cause up in a few of the story lines, though, so I have to buy 6-8 books a month to keep up with them. I pass the books on to my MIL when I'm done since she loves to read, too. I box them up and when we go home (usually we make the trip twice a year) I have at least 50 to give her, so it keeps her stocked up. I also read VC Andrews and Steph King, but not so much anymore. Also some of the classics like Where the Red Fern Grows and To Kill A Mockingbird, and even the Little House books. Just depends on the mood I'm in.

Reading is neither a habit nor a hobby for me. It is an obsession. It is the thread that runs through my life holding things together, the thread that held me together when I was younger and my life was a mess. Reading is both my escape and my tie to reality. I sound melodramatic, I'm sure, but I'm just voicing my thoughts here. *shrugs* I started reading before I started talking, and the easiest way for me to pinpoint when something happened to me is what books I was reading at the time. If I was very young, it was likely horror novels, and then a little later, the "classics". Philosophical and religious works when I was in elementary school and junior high, children's books when I was in high school because I finally realized they have merit of their own, after having ignored them throughout my own childhood. Back to horror novels when I spent a few years pretty much lying on what I thought would be my deathbed, and now a smorgasboard of pretty much every kind of fiction or non-fiction book I can get my hands on. Back to history and religion at the moment too, because I live more in the spirit world than the physical. I don't believe in "bad materials" I think. I believe that even books that are "bad" can be good for you if you choose to read them in a way that influences you positively, just as even negative parts of our lives cause us to grow. If I read a book whose author had an outlook I don't agree with, I think "What caused this person to become this way? How can I avoid that in my own life? What kind of different philosophies and ideas could have been applied here instead?" That's my way of thinking at least.

I'm glad you liked my response. Obviously this is something I feel really strongly about! You have a good point that anything can be bad or good depending on how you use it or look at it, including technology. That's a really good example, because it can both save lives and destroy them in the blink of an eye sometimes.

Good or bad it is according to person to person. One can make it bad or good. Everything is like that. Even modern science and inventions also can be turned to bad or good. So I agree with you no bad things. It is according to he person who handle it. And also I can understand your expression about reading. An excellent expression. I cannot withhold to give you best opinion. Thanks a lot Iecanis.

For me reading is a hobby. I love to read and I love to read fictional books. I don't like books about someones life, autobiographys. I like books that are make belief but believable. I like mystery books mainly. I don't base what kind of person I am by what I read. I don't think the two have antthing to do with each other. I am a good person no matter wht I am rading.

It is happy to hear that you are a good person and keep that self confidence all over your life. Auto biographies are self expression and it is a courageous make. So we have to respect that. Any way everybody have their own likes and dislikes. The main thing is that we have to respect ourself and others. Then we can be great personalities. Thank you for your response.

That is great. You are keeping a library itself full of books you have read already. But I can imagine your knowledge, because you read a great collection of books. Keep it up and update your knowledge always and also convey this knowledge to all those who have nos such chance. If you don't mind publish a blog when you get time. Thank you for your response.
