Please help me acquaint with Singapore - the place, people and culture...I'll greatly appreciate anything you cold offer especially if it will help me land into a good job. Im going there on February 19. My EPEC (employment pass) was approved already and I am hoping to get a job as soon as possible. Thanks a lot!

welcome to mylot... well there are a lot of policies which are strictly implemented in that country.. for example littering and vandalism policies...of course littering and vandalism is not allowed... please tell me the nature of your work so that i may know what to advise... because that will also depend on the nature of your job there.. happy posting PS i just seen your profile and your country is unspecified.. please specify before going to Singapore...thanks and Goodluck

I am from the Philippines and I finished Bachelor in Secondary Education major in Special Education from UP Diliman in 2004. Unfortunately I don't have any formal work expereince because I have a baby then to attend to. Most of my previous teaching jobs are parttime and self-employment in nature (tutorial).

there are possible jobs that i think you might have in Singapore..however they prefer more of students of Business courses..but you can try it... it is more on sales such as in malls and stores..you can also try food service but that will depend on the outlet if they will accept graduates of Education... most probably you will end up either in sales job or Domestic Helper... if you end up in selling,Singaporean prefer salesman to be honest..they do not want an exaggerated comments about the product...indicate advantages and disadvantages of the product so that they will not expect to much from the product and they will not blame you if the product did not meet their expectations... you should also be ready to totally different culture of Singapore... if you are not ready for it, you will end up in culture shock... some reminder, if you have seen couples display their affection for each other, just ignore them. staring at them (especially for long time) is not allowed..you might end up having arguments with those couples... most of my students (when i was teaching in college) shared me a lot of tips about singapore..that is why i have some ideas of Singapore...

its not that easy to look for a job despite that you have EPEC,,do u have someone else there to help?Singapore is a very clean country and vandalism is highly prohibited..people there are chinese in culture but they are good too..by the way what is the natue of your work?everything depends on to the nature of your job coz i have a lot of friends who are engineers working there and they are all happy and contented,,they could bring their family too and thay are succesful in singapore...you dont hhve to worry just be good and be honest and be careful...goodluck and Il pray for your success...and pls know the basic laws of them ..the do's and dont's for your own safety ok?

Yes, I have a cousin who works in P&G and even offered his place for free that's why I'm a bit confident going there because I know that there are people who will help me. Of course, EPEC is not an assurance that I'll get a job asap but I'll gamble with the skills I have acquired. I'll also try my luck with the Ministry of Education since they are really in need of teachers right now. Thanks for your time and very helpful response. HAve a nice day!
