Do I really spend that much time here?

Today I realized how many interest categories I have high levels of, or am ranked first or close to first in. Some of these are categories I didn't think I had even been that involved in. Then I started realizing not only how many posts I have but how much money I seem to make compared to some of the people who post about the earnings. It all made me think: Do I really spend that much time here? I don't feel like I do. I have a full-time job, a husband and son, and I also spend a lot of time on both reading and my spiritual practices. So how could I possibly be on here enough to have those high rankings???? For those of you who know me: Do you perceive me as always being on mylot? Do I seem to always be around? For everyone: Do you sometimes wonder at the amount of time you spend on mylot?

Actually in all honesty I don't see you that much on Mylot my friend, which is disappointing, not that I am saying this because I am hinting about my discussions, far from it, I value your responses and discussions and as one of my good friends it's always nice to see you around when I respond to others I see your words of wisdom. I spend a lot of time on Mylot, I guess I am an addict in a way LOL, but more so for contact with my friends and some great banter, yes therapy too, as Mylot has always been my saving grace and my counseling pool to come to when I'm feelind down or want to spread happiness.

You've got a lot of people who care about you, so when things get that bad just get straight onto Mylot and you know you'll get the love, respect and support that you deserve. A few others can relate to the razor including myself but thankfully that was a long time ago, sometimes just knowing there are people there to support you and advise you is enough. Take care x

You're right, I'm not around as much now as I used to be. I miss my friends here too, including you! You have a good point about the therapy thing! I've used mylot as therapy a lot of times myself. There have been times when coming onto mylot and seeing my friends here has saved me from my self-destructive tendencies. One night I spent most of the night on mylot while also staring at a razor that was sitting on my computer desk... but I never picked it up and used it. Yay me! :P

Thank you, wolfie. Seriously. Having people that can relate to my issues is a large part of why I enjoy being online so much. If I said a lot of the things I say online to my husband, or many of my offline friends, they would simply tell me I was crazy or freak out over the whole thing. So it's nice to be somewhere where there are people who can understand. Oh, and to preempt anyone who reads this and says "You need to get professional help", I do actually go to therapy. Just so you know. :p

LOL - I seem to go in spells, sometimes I live here on myLot but then I'll go weeks I'm not here at all. But yes, from your amount of posts I would say you spend a good share of time here - I've never really noticed it of you so much though.

I think I go in spells like that too. Sometimes I get caught up in other things I'm doing online, or anime I'm watching, or books I'm reading, and I won't be on much.... and other times every time I'm not busy with something I HAVE to do I'll be on mylot. :P I suppose you have a point about my post count, though it did take me year to get that many. I know people who have more who haven't been here as long as me, but then again I know people who've been here just as long who don't have as much. Like you, I suppose!

yea I was spending a whole lotta time here but this summer I really slacked off and my earning reflected it - this month will be the first time I've reached payout in 5 months - before that I was reaching payout every single month.

I wish to understand this ranking. I think that higher number is 16, depends on number of discussions we start or respond to. This is very good question, yes we do spend that much time here...lol

Mylot is a hobby just like any of your other hobby's. I really don't think what we think is important here, it's all about how you feel and if your mylotting is taking away from your other commitments and ventures. To answer your question, no I don't feel you are around all of the time, in fact there are times I really miss you. When my life gets busy, and life gets in the way of my "hobby" its okay because it will be here when I get back. In fact I think you are a very well rounded, level headed young woman that knows exactly how to make her life move in the direction that she wants. So my question would be do you feel you are on line to much? Does your husband and son feel neglected? I would dare say they both feel very loved and well taken care of.

Yeah but lecanis, your husband comes across to me as a quiet man, private. You on the other hand are a talker and a sharer. Woman tend to enjoy the gift of communication more so then men. You also have a message to spread, part of that has to do with your healing. You are a warrior in the fight of acknowledgment and awareness of childhood abuse. When we feel that impassioned to speak out, we find our avenues and Mylot has given you the spring board to set that message of your heart into motion.

Aww, Angelwhispers, I miss you too. *hugs* You have a point, it really doesn't matter what other people think. That doesn't keep me from being curious about it though! :P I don't think my husband or son feel neglected because of my being on mylot, though my husband is kind of incredulous about my enjoyment of it. I do spend a lot of time with my son, and usually if I'm on mylot he's either on my lap or being independent and wanting to play on his own.

Hello lecanis!:-) I am not that active myself on mylot for few months now, so I can't really comment on your activity in recent months. But, as for previous months, I didn't see you as always being on mylot. In fact, sometimes, I used to wonder (when I was active and didn't find you people online) and got worried that why you and other friends aren't coming online. It had to do with health concerns of yours and other friends. I used to wonder if you and other friends are ok. I can remember that sometimes, you didn't come online for a whole couple of days, you were usually either absent or almost inactive on mondays, right? As for your number of posts, you have been a member here for a year now and I can see some others who became member after you or even me and they have more posts to their credit than yourself. And topping the interest categories can only be attributed to your positive inputs, intelligence and honesty. So, in conclusion, I wouldn't say that you spend too much time here but that you spend quality time here!:-)

Lecanis, the reason Kamran is so sporatic in activity is that he is too busy conversing with rabbits and chasing us mere mortals down said rabbit holes :)) That takes up much of his time. By the way If you offer him a Candy Cane it truly delights him :))

Sorry to have made you worry! Especially with my health problems and everyone here knowing about them, I do feel bad when I don't get online to let people know I'm okay. I try to post if I know I'm going to be inactive for a while, but it just doesn't always work out. You seem pretty sporadic to me. Sometimes it'll seem like you're here a lot, and then others you'll be gone for a long time. I realize your life is really busy though. Yup, you know me well! Mondays and Tuesdays are the days that I'm usually not online much, because they're my husband's days off work. Sometimes I'll still be on a little if he's napping (because he works all Sunday night), but it's nowhere near my normal level of activity. Oooo good point about the quality issue! You're so insightful! :)

lecanis, I didn't come online for almost two months (Nov, Dec) and a little before and after that I got myself stuck in some political and religious debates. That may explain my soradic activity. And yes, quality pays, how else you could be among the top contributors here? I wish you well and hope that all your major concerns get resolved sooner than later. There will still be concerns as life is full of them, and without concerns, life may get boring actually! C'est la vie (that's life), eh?

well your on more than me. when I was active it seemed like you were on about the same not too much you jsut have long answers all the time and lots of answers to your posts what is key on here is answers to your posts.thats where the money is. if i dont post my own i only get less moeny then on the days i post something myself then i can not be on and as long as ppl answer i still get money.

Yup, I haven't seen you around near as much lately! You have a good point about what gets you money around here. I'm starting to post more of my own discussions lately than I used to, personally. It's not really because of money, but just because I've figured out ways to keep up with them, and I don't find as many good discussions to respond to as I used to... so I make my own. :P

lol..I don't know about you...but I sure spend a lot of time here. I think high rankings depends on the responses you have given to discussions under that interest. You probably responded to most of the discussions under that interest in the little time you manage to be here (well, obviously those are discussions on something that is your interest..you would prefer to respond to that than to others that don't interest you). Personally, I don't feel you are always around...but I don't think anyone I know is around all the time either....hmmm..come to think of it...yes, there are a few who I think are here all the time....but you don't seem to be one of them (to me).

lol...are you wondering if I ever sleep? Oh yes I do! Seems like I have a lot of free time on weekdays....which will end soon when I start working..then you'll hardly see me here! I'm here at the same time most of the days. If you are here the same time every day, you might find the same set of people most of the time. We all live in different time zones...so there might be people who are asleep when you are on...but spend most of their waking hours here...there might be others who aren't here much (like you) but are logged on at the same time...so you feel they are here all the time! Does that make sense?

Hehe, you do seem to spend a lot of time here too! :P You have a point, I probably do respond to most of the discussions under those interests without even realizing it, if it's something I like. I sometimes go straight from new discussions or friend's discussions without even checking the interest, so maybe I responded under those interests without even realizing it! There are a few who seem to be here all the time, aren't there? It's funny to sometimes see the same people every time I log on, and I wonder... "Do they even sleep?" :P

looking at your response figure i should think you spend alot of time on here. I'm struggling to get to 500 and even to reach £10 so i can cash it in. You must be good at talking. Perhaps you can give me some hints on how to get better at these discussions.
28 Jan 08
i must admit since i first started on here i do tend to say perhaps more than people even want to read, i've just found it's such a good place to ask even the daft questions that run through your mind. Thanks for your advice

Haha, I guess I am good at talking. The best advice I can really give is to focus on quality. If you're writing a response, make sure you take your time on it and write something of value instead of just slinging down a line or two. If you're writing a discussion, have a detailed discussion starter so that there's a lot for your responders to talk about. I usually just get discussion ideas from events that happen in my life, but I make sure to include a question that draws out others to talk about similar experiences, so there's something to discuss.

Hi, lecanis! I must say, even before you added me as a Friend, I rember seeing you around here. I noticed your avatar and your name, I guess. I did seem to stumble upon many of the same discussions as you do. That said, you sound a whole lot busier than I am. I too have a husband, kids, hobbies... and a sporadic freelance career. I don't work full time outside the home, and I actually have about 9 hours a week to myslef when my son is at preschool. Even still, I can't seem to make the $!0 payout! I have been a Mylot member for over a year and I've only made payout twice. This last time, I'm not even at 8 dollars yet and it's been at least 6 months since I made a payout! So, if you're actually making money on here then you MUST be spending more time here than I do. I'd say I spend maybe a half hour a day, maybe a little less on some days. Maybe you post really good discussions that get a lot of responses. I still don't know what the criteria is to make money on here, I just know that I don't make any and I just do it for fun! I'm curious as to how much time a day you spend on Mylot.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems making payout. I can't imagine why... you seem to have good responses and discussions, as far as I've seen. I am very lucky to get so many responses... I have some great friends! :) It seems everyone has heard of myspace, even kids! Scary, isn't it? My son already gets annoyed if I'm on the computer when he wants to play, but he is so independent that he only wants to play once in a while. More often he's annoyed because I'm trying to play with him and he wants to be left alone to play by himself. Little monkey! :p

Hehe, I think we have a lot of the same friends too, which helps with the stumbling on the same discussions. Though that's my favorite way to make friends here, noticing that a person is on a lot of the discussions I'm on and thinking "Wow they have good taste!" :P My son isn't in school at all yet, so he's always here with me or my husband, but he's very independent. If I play with him too much he'll say "Mommy, go away!" And he's not even two yet... I miss having a snuggly baby! I must be spending a lot of time here, since I make payout every month, but I guess I'm just good at multitasking or something, since I manage to spend time here and keep up with all my other stuff as well. I should try keeping up with how long I'm on mylot for a week or something, but it would be kind of hard since I'm usually on for a few minutes, off doing something else, and then on again. Hmmm... I'll have to try to think of a way to keep track of it, and then make a post about it. Maybe I should get a stopwatch. :P

Yes really, I guess a lot of little stops on Mylot add up. I for the life of me can't make payout!Your discussions seem to get a lot of responses so that surely helps your earnings. My kids are old enough to get annoyed when I'm on Mylot. My 7 year old will say "Mommy, are you on Myspace?" How has she even heard of Myspace, I don't know! Anyway, if I had a stopwatvch I'd say my time on Mylot today has been about 10 minutes total. I may add a few more minutes later tonight!

Hi Lecanis... I find this type of question hard to answer because it really is subjective. When ponder...am I "too" anything how can anyone answer that for them? When people put a hypothetical question about being; "Too old to be doing this or that...too fat to wear this or that...spend too much time gaming...or whatever the "too" category is" my response is always..."As compared to what?' There are always those who are bigger/smaller/older/younger/play less/more and for me the bottom line is...what works for you? In regard to the time you spend on Mylot and how you have presented other interests and life responsibilities. From the limited amount that I know about you from my 'perspective' your wheel of life sounds pretty balanced to me. I think 'too much' of whatever it is comes at the point where 'it' detracts from whatever else we are neglecting. Also when the 'too much' begins to detract rather than enhance our quality of life in other areas. Couple that with the point the 'too much' reduces rather than our interactions with others. Raia

You have a good point about the subjective nature of the question. That's why I asked it though, because I wondered how other people perceive me. Kind of an experiment... me and my thirst for knowledge. :P You have a point, I'm pretty balanced...except in terms of social interaction outside work and home. I don't go out with friends often at all, and I don't have company all that often. Darn social phobia. ;P

lol I wish I understood the ranking system. I don't have any idea how it works. I don't even know if 1 or 14 is better. I don't perceive you as always being on my lot. Obviously from your post count you have posted a lot. You've been a member for over a year now though so thats pretty good. I don't wonder at the amount of time I spend here... but I do worry at times. lol I checked your profile. I thought you were way older than you are.

14 is better on the level, but 1 would be better on the rank, which is displayed like (?/?) and is basically your rank compared to everyone else who is ranked in that interest. I don't think I'm very good at explaining it, sorry! :P *giggles* You know, I think a lot of people think I'm older than I am. I've been accused of being "old and wise" more times than I can count. I guess I should take it as a compliment! :)

You can usually see the rankings by rolling your mouse over the level. You can also see the top ten in an interest category by looking at the page for that category under the interests tab. I suppose I do come across as rather sure of myself. I've always been that way, to some extent, but my life experience has also added to it. I know who I am, I know what I've been through, and I know where I want to go now. :)

LOL. Same here. But its quality that counts more. Maybe you just wrote really good posts in the other categories without noticing it because you wrote a lot about certain topics but don't really post a lot in quantity? 0: I dunno there could be several factors lol. I haven't been on that much and my earnings show it. .I was hoping to reach at least a dollar this week but there's always next. But for me it does feel like I spend a lot of time here because as an older teen. When I'm procrastinating, ever since I heard about myLot I'd go here to post about random stuff in different categories that it belongs under. Its a great way to kill time and can also improve your typing skills if you need practice. (; I grew up with computers though so unless I'm aiming for a high WPM I don't think I need to but people are always looking for fast and accurate typists. .xD. MyLot is an addiction. . .

It probably is just that I wrote really good posts there and didn't realize it. I do take anything I write rather seriously, even mylot posts. Good luck with your goals! :) I grew up with computers as well, even though a lot of the kids around me didn't. My father did programming when I was a kid, so I've always been used to having computers around and using them. My typing has always been rather good, and it's only gotten better over the past 15 years or so of spending a lot of time online.
