Don't we all....

Want to do what is best and most beneficial for our children? What if what your child needed was an expensive $26 an hour therapy in order to learn skills and become all he/she could be? Would you do all you could do to continue this therapy....What if the money was gone? What then would you do in desperation to continue the therapy..... Or, would you discontinue it? I can't discontinue my son's ABA therapy as he has progressed so much and continues to in each session but he has soooo far yet to go!!! ABA Therapy is an intensive therapy for autism, in case anyone has not heard of this therapy, and it is very expensive! Over and above the Hourly rate of $26 we also have to pay a $10 travel fee each time the therapist comes to our house and that's not all....On top of that we have to pay for the cost of programming and materials as our son progresses! We currently have a bill for $396 for programming and Friday is the therapists pay day....I'm not sure where the money is coming from to pay her for all of this! If I owned a home I would mortgage it but we rent... There is nothing for collateral for a bank loan! Any prayers, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) I don't know what else to do as we have exhausted all of the local charities and now that money is depleted!!! Thanks in advance for any and all help! ~Heavens~

Hi heavenschild, I'm so very sorry that this has happened, and that your funds for this 'all important therapy,' have been depleted. I 'understand' all that you're going through, and have gone through, and know that you can't take on too much more, or 'you will burnout.' You really need the support 'of the ones closest to you,' and I know you do have this from 'some,' but 'others' need to realize the seriousness of the situation. I really do believe that there will have to be some changes made, and that it shouldn't just be left up to you, as it's not fair. One person can only do and take so much. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm ranting here, but I'm sure you understand what I'm speaking of. As for exhausting all of the local charities, surely there will be some 'new ones,' who are charity minded, that will come on board with you. I'll pray toward this end, and that your other needs will be met as well. I really do wish there was something tangible I could do, as it's hard for me to just stand by, and feel helpless. Take care. Big hugs to you.

Hi Mom! I certainly do not plan on taking on anymore outside work from my home I am out too much as it is now!!! Money, as you know, is going to have to come from other source(s) for this! I do wish my husband could find a higher paying position and help us in many areas with the extra money that that would accrue :) I too am looking to hear form some New Charities or person(s) in order to help us out with these great costs! Thanks so much for your prayers and I truly do understand where you are coming from also...Even if others that should do not! :) Love and Hugs to you always ~Heavens~

I would never discontinue the therapy if its the only way to help my child become the best person that he/she could be and realize his/her potential. Money is always a problem with a lot of us and i have learned that if there is a will, there is always a way. One could take on another job or other scheme to earn additional money. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY and i really believe in this. I am a single parent and i am raising 2 kids alone and money is always a problem until one day i just woke up and decided there and then to find another way. So I did. I became a financial planner, a reseller, a bookkeeper and a small time business woman. I did all those things thinking that its for my children and i keep things positive. I will always find a way as long as I am healthy and able, my children will never lack for anything.

Try March of Dimes for help. Try your local school system, they should definitely be helping. What is the age of your child? IS this early intervention? THe state should help, I wish I could help more..I am in NY and don't know how Canada would work. I work at a center for autism and they are starting a preschool program --I think this september and I believe the school systems would cover the cost for this.

Is there an autism.org or .com that can help and maybe give you aid for funding...Maybe your church could help with a fund raiser. My friend's sister's church raised over $7 K.... they did a dinner and a auction, people payed for dinner, different restaurants donated food and people and businesses donated items for an auction. I am a one stroke painter, I painted a $7 mailbox that raised $200. I hope this gives you more ideas and more hope.

Thanks so much my dear friend! :) I regret to say that it was thought our church would do something when our son was diagnosed over two years ago, however it seems that nothing is going to take place! We did put containers out in local businesses in my old hometown where my parents still live last year and I am thinking that maybe it is time to try this again...However this only brings in small amounts but better than no help at all! :) Thanks again :) ~Heavens~

Hi Deb! I actually haven't tried The March of Dimes...I never thought of them! My son is four and is already attending what we call Junior Kindergarten as Kindergarten is a two year program here for all children. However I know that the school system will not fund this as it is hard enough to get a full time aid for my son while he is there forget about funding a program that is done at home!! I do agree that the government and my province should help more but the view is that it is so costly and there are so many children with this that the money is not granted! As I told mummymo, just above you, In order to get funded by the government you must get on a wait list which I have been on for two years now. I started out as #98 and am now #29 so until I come up on this list I must fund my own therapy or find others willing to help....It is sad but that is the reality!!!! ~Heavens~

You know without me saying it that you have my thoughts and prayers with this awful situation, I just wish there was more that I could do for you! If my child were in that situation and the therapy was one that was needed and helpful I would do whatever I could to ensure they got it no matter what it cost me or how much debt I got into. Are there no government grants or such that you haven't heard about - I think it is awful that you are left to fend for yourself in this situation - the government should be helping out here for definite - I mean here that is one of the reasons we pay taxes to provide for those who need it! xxx

My dear mummymo I agree that the government needs to step up but the way it works is you get on a wait list...I have been on this wait list for two years now and I started out at #98, now I am #29...Until I come up on this list I have to do this on my own and as I said previously have exhausted all of the local charities...I am going further abroad now and hoping that someone will help me but I am not putting my hopes up as most only fund those in their area...I have already been denied from some charities due to the fact that I lived out of area!!! Thanks so much for your support and your prayers in this! Love and hugs to you ~Heavens~
