Here in the Philippines, theres a lot of plastic you see wherever you go. ALL the more when you go to the market and buy stuff you will be amazed how many plastics there will be when you get home. If you buy vegetable, the vendors will give you one plastic each vegetable that you buy, when you buy 8 vegetables then you will also get 8 plastics. Thats why Im re using it for garbage at home and im saving money coz i no longer buy garbage plastics. Not only Im able to help mother nature im also saving my money for other purposes. HOpe you have a nice day and more mylotting!

yep! we still recycle plastic bags and used it for a lot of ways. but then it becomes icky i used over and over for a long time. so what we do is put it in water with soap to remove the stench and have it dry under the sun. when we go shopping, we purchased a shopping bag so the market won't have to give us more plastics to worry about. environment issues are now on concerning the two types of bags. (the paper and plastic) hard to decide which one is more environment friendly. coz if u do a research -- you'll see that the pros and cons are somewhat alike. i think, it doesn't really matter what bag we use -- it's all up to the people who uses them.

Yes, thats true, I heard that Australia they use paper bags than the plastic bags and I heard that they ban it from being used there, well for a poor country like the Philippines it would be added expenses on the part of the vendors if they have to buy paper bags for their products coz paper is more expensive than plastic.

I just came back from my garage to clean out alot of junk. Then of course a lot of empty plastic bags I put in one big box and we have a blue recycle can where I put all the plastic bags inside for the disposal workers to pick up every Wednesday. It's easier just to recycle especially cans, bottles and such. Good thing they won't go to waste.

Yes thats true, even at home we keep plastics and cans and give them to children who go around our community, it could help them somehow coz they sell them.

Of course I recycle plastic bags. We usually use it as garbage bags too. My father in law in the US sometimes sends us their excess plastic bags too. I duno why but I think they do have lots of it in their place. Some good plastic bags we used when we travel we put clothes in plastic bags to protect our clothes not just put clothes directly to our travelling bags.

Yes, I also keep those cute looking bags and use them for whatever it may serve. Most of the normal plastic bag from the local market are used for the garbage purposes and Im just glad I dont have to buy those black garbage bags cooz they are expensive and I could save money for that.

What we do, is we use our plastic grocery bags for small trash bags, that way they aren't just being thrown away, and we actually are saving a bit of money but not having to buy trashbags. It's a win/win situation. However because we buy a lot, and we don't always need to change trashbags, we ended up with a huge stockpile of plastic bags. On one trip to walmart, we actually took a bag full of plastic bags so they could be recycled, however we do need to make another trip because we have way too many bags.

Thailand is similar to The Philippines, we're inundated with plastic bags. We use them as rubbish bags also, so we don't have to buy them. However this isn't the real answer to the problem. I can't work out why someone hasn't invented biodegradable plastic bags. Whoever does will make a fortune.

I think they have invented biodegradable plastic bags made from corn and sugar cane, but I think they are relatively expensive. I think we are going to be force to bing our own bags to the stores or pay for bags before we we a lot of use of biodegradable bags. I take reusable bags with me to carry my grocers home and am thinking of making net bags to take to the store to put fruits and vegetables in so I don't have to put them in plastic bags either.

When I was a kid we always took a string bag when we went shopping. We have to find a solution to this problem, and quickley. I'm worried that if producers start growing corn for products, and not for consumption, there will be a shortage of food. Governments are already subsidising growers to grow corn for oil, if this trend continues, farmers will stop growing crops for human and animal consumption, and the consequences frighten me.

Yes I reuse my bags. I am also in the process of getting canvas bags to take with my when I grocery shop. My hubby thinks I'm nuts, but I just saw An Inconvient Truth and it is quite sobering.

I do have a canvas bag but its small and not good enough to be used for my marketing. I have seen green bags being promoted on a big store here and its a relief that they have also concern for mother nature, but the sad thing is that they still use those toxic plastics, though they give extra points to those who will use the grren bag or also known as save mother earth bag.

There are limited opportunities to recycle plastic bags in my state of south australia. One or two of the big supermarkets have a bin for recycled plastic bags. Most don't, & even though our council has recycling for a number of items, this doesn't include plastic bags. Our government are going to ban the use of plastic bags in about 6 months time anyway. I do resuse a few plastic bags myself to carry other items.

Thas really good, I hope the government in the Philippines will still have that option to ban it or if not regulate the use of plastics.

Hey i'm from the Philippines too. Here in our area our mayor order us to segregate our trash into two. One is for the biodegradable and non-biodegradable and we re-used our plastics also, while the other garbage that can be sold we're put to trash also for the trash pickers to earn from them.

Every time I go to the grocery store I end up with a lot of plastic bags. Several of the grocery stores including WalMart have recycle bins for the bags. My problem is that I always forget to bring them back. I have a bunch ready to take but I can never remember so I end up with more.

Here we have lots of plastic bags as well. In the supermarket, normally we will put away the items we bought into the shopping bags ourselves after settling the bills. And there is no limitation for taking away the shopping bags. Most of the times, we will recycle them by using them as garbage bags or whatever suits. Also there are recycles bins provided in the supermarket for people whoever like to return the old/used plastics .

Here in the USA we have a recycling can that is picked up when the trash is picked up. We our recycling can is bigger then the trash can is. I have been using cloth bags to put my groceries in so I do not have to use grocery pages from the market.

Hi,Zelmarq! China also has encountered the similar situation.People consume plenty of plastic bags every day, though the Government now advocate using cloth bags. I reuse plastic bags as the garbage bags cos in this way,I can save money but I'm still worried about the pollution of these plastic bags. They are dangerous to the environment.

Yes the pollution of plastic is one of the toxic ones coz they are not biodegradable and takes years and years for it to decompose thats why there are companies who recyle them and turn them to tables and other useful things.

Oh i hate litterbugs!c",) i hate seeing garbage everywhere so it's always nice to take part in cleaning our environment and it should start within our household. I could still remember my grandma keeps every plastic from food or things bought and she would use it for her plants' sidlings or use it to wraps things that are kept in the cabinets or use it for garbage wrap and etc. Same goes with my mother, and i got the idea from them, one of the responders here shared that we could crochet a bag out of plastics and i think it's a great idea!c",)

i am a filipino and i do a of recycling. paperbags, gift wrappers, used rusty screws and bent nails, worn out and torn out jeans, used papers and i use the blank back pages for scratch papers. old notebooks to write things, making use of old component sound system as music players or use it to amplify sound. wow, i could go on and on. recycling is fun and it would really save you a lot.

i know how it is here in our country zelmarq. ^__^ we also recycle plastic bags at home. like you, we usually use it for our garbage. we also use it to wrap things and stuffs that are stored away to keep away the dusts from getting into the thing/stuff. sometimes i bring plastic bags when i'm traveling and put there my dirty clothes. sometimes we reuse it when going to the market. we don't only lessen our plastic trash but the vendor saves money from it. sometimes, if the stuff i'm buying is dry and i can put it in my bag without my things being ruined, i would tell the vendor not to put it in a plastic anymore. i think its only fair and right to be concerned with the environment since we are living in it and benefiting from it. its high time that we become active in saving the environment. ^__^

wow, a bag for each variety of veggie, that must be a hassle to have to carry into your home. have you thought about using a canvas bag instead? we use a lot of the bags we get for trash, just as you do another thing I have done is cut the bags into rings and then string them together to make one large rope out of them, I then take this rope and crochet it. they make nice rugs or tote bags... very cushy.

I would recycle them if my area had a facility designed to do so. We have recycling centers, but I don't believe there are any that recycle plastic bags. Apparently they are some sort of different kind of plastic. I don't know a whole lot about it. I do recycle all the plastics and other recyclables that our facility accepts.

Yeah, I am also from the Philippines, I also do recycle plastic bags and use it to dispose garbages. In fact, when I moved to a new house, I just used huge thick plastic bags to pack my bags, it is lighter to carry around since I carry my things way up to the third floor.

Its ok to use plastic bags as long as we know how to dispose them properly. Its what really does matter.
