i consider myself to be a fairly religious person, and by that i mean i believe in god and the christian faith but i dont go to church every sunday or argue with my athiest friends. that said, i was wondering what peoples opinions were on the topic of entertainment. i listen to music that not only isnt religious but is anti-religion. same for movies and videogames. ive never given it a second thought but my girlfriend, who is an athiest, pointed this out the irony of this, and i curious to know if anyone has a problem with non-christian entertainment. to me art is art and has no bearing on my personal opinions.

going to church my friend no more makes one a christian tha sitting in a garage once a week will make you a car!It is not the church that is important but what you believe in your heart that matters!

I think your experience of life and art would be very narrow if you limited your consumption only to TV, films, music, books and games that came with a Christian seal of approval. Art and entertainment give people pleasure and also give them new perspectives on the world. It would be very dull and boring if everything you experienced just parroted back your own beliefs and opinions at you, and you would end up becoming very dull and boring too! I can't believe that any God would wish to impoverish his followers in that way. The best way of establishing your own views on the world is to expose yourself to as many competing views as possible, so you have some idea of the richness of possibilities out there.

that is the way i see it, but there are many people who see religion as an all or nothing type of thing. it makes me proud to see that there are people who see things from my point of view.

Well, I am a follower of the words of Christ, for want of a better term (well, I try). But I have no issue with ireligious art. *shrug* you should read some of my fiction... Art is art, and some times it's just plain funny; if you cannot laugh at yourself and all that you are then you need to take a long hard look at yourself and find out why you think you are so special. One of my favourite artistic images is by Giger (of Alien fame). It's an image of Satan holding Christ Crucified as a sling shot... not sure what he was trying to say. However, not only is it beautiful but, in a way, makes me think of many a 'Christian' (especially the Catholic Church)... using Christ as a means to do ill _ Does this make me less religious? Or does this mean I think about my faith?

i have many h.r giger pictures hanging in my appartment. i agree with you completely and in my opinion questioning ones faith is the only way to truly believe in it.
