Why do you watch sports?

I was going to direct this discussion at females, but I know there are sport minded women who make their husbands watch stuff too. For example, I love equestrian sports and ice skating so hubby has to put up with me when they are on. I watch rugby to try to understand why my son likes it, and hubby just avoids it all together. You know what I mean, though. There have forever been football, baseball, car race, etc...WIDOWS and WIDOWERS. The only reason I understand football, for example, is because in college I had a boyfriend who watched it so much, even when I was with him, that I just naturally came to understand it, even if I didn't enjoy it. Now I watch and talk about sports mostly because of my sons. What is your reason for watching sports?

I like to watch certain sports because I enjoy them or learn certain techniques. I enjoy extreme sports such as skateboarding and skateboarding. I also enjoy watching various martial arts tournaments and competitions because I practice karate myself. I play softball, but I can't stand watching baseball games. So, I guess for me I watch to learn.

That's sort of like my drumming son. He watches YouTube videos and music videos to see drumming styles and techniques. Makes sense to me.

Well, for me it was a progression. In high school, I was a cheerleader, and began to understand football and basketball. Then I married my husband, and after a couple of years, added baseball to my knowledge. Next thing you know, I'm a huge fan of football and baseball (could do without basketball, it kind of bores me). My sons are huge soccer fans and players, so I have been learning all about that over the past 3 years. Its funny how a girl can go from, not caring about any sport, to becoming a fan. :O)

If you were a cheerleader you must have at least cared a little bit. LOL.

I only watch hockey and soccer (the world cup or euro cup only) because i like it. I also enjoy attending these sporting events live. When the olympics are on, i watch many different sports such as diving, swimming, racing, kayaking, ice skating, speed skating, figure skating, ski, acrobatic ski jump and so on. I never watch sports i don't enjoy and hubby likes to watch the same as me, so it's all good!

I have seen live professional baseball (Go Red Sox) and live football and rugby (high school), as well as ice skating. I really enjoy things like this live rather than on television. The only nice thing about winter sports on television, like artistic skiing, is that you don't have to freeze!!

For me it's simple, for the beauty of it all!;) I don't watch sports just because I play or know them, I watch it because I am also a frustrated sports man!;) Seriously, I want to see how people who into sports execute such performance with grace and beauty. I also liked the feeling of being triumphant, how to conquer glory and defy whatever odds they face!;)

It's admirable to watch people who do things well and triumph in the end. I guess that is why I like equestrian events and skating. Even though their performances get compared and rated in competition, it is not an aggressive kind of competition like in football, etc.

Swimming and Gymnatics are great for sure. I don't call boxing and wrestling sports either. They are just ridiculous to me.

Well I watch sports to be entertained and also to look at how skilled the athletes today are. I also watch sports with friends or because there is nothing else on tv worth watching.

I guess if I was looking for quality time with friends, it wouldn't be in front of the tv. Movies are ok from time to time. If I am getting together for social reasons, I prefer live activities.

Mitch in his rugby uniform - Here is Mitch proudly sporting his school colors during a big rugby game.
My son started playing Rugby on the high school team last year. He LOVES it and he watches All Blacks videos on YouTube for hours.

I came across this site and not sure if it any good. They are currently showing the Super 14 Rugby games in New Zealand. Looks like there is a fee involved but not sure how much. You might want to check it out. http://www.mediazone.com/channel/rugby/jsp/2006/index.jsp

I watch sports because I actually enjoy it. The adrenaline rush and the comraderie as well. When I was a young teenager, my dad used to watch football every Sunday (which is usually when I was with him) and I didn't like it so much then. But, as I grew older, I chose to watch it for myself and found that I actually enjoyed it since it was "my choice". I only enjoy watching football and hockey. I've tried to get into basketball and baseball, but I just can't. I'm addicted to football. I watch the Thursday games, the holiday games, the Saturday games, 3 Sunday games and the Monday night football game. My daughter hates it as much as I hated it when my dad watched it all the time, but I tell her that it's only a season. Now that my son is into football and started playing last summer, we enjoy watching it together. I will watch hockey when I catch it on, but I'm not as addicted to it as I am football.

I watch football (soccer to americans) because I enjoy it, it is fast moving and skillfull. If everybody liked the same things life would be very boring.

It's true, if we all spent our time watching sports, who would have time to develop cool web sites like myLot for us?
