Certainly, I would feel bad, I think everyone's time is important and previous, so is mine. Therefore, the receiptionist should be quick enough to sort out my problems, otherwise she is of no use.

I would allow her some time to sort out my problem. If she is unable to sort out my problem or if she does not behave in a decent manner, I would have a blast on her. I would tell her that you being the image of your company, are not performing your duties sincerely and I must talk to your senior officer.

Well, depends on what I am calling for. If it is something really important to me, I will ask the receptionist to connect me to someone higher and then talk to them and also tell them about the receptionist's attitude.
But if it is something that is beneficial to them, I will talk to the higher authority and tell them that I am not going to do whatever I planned to do because of the receptionist's attitude.
But having said that, it will depend on the situation and if the receptionist is rude or just disinterested. I will take the situation as it comes.

Annoyed, sometimes depending on my mood I will take her name which usually changes their attitude because you could be a mystery shopper or someone important, she don't know you from Adam and you could get your own back by turning the tables and if you are quick minded could let her know that you are a big business person or have lots of money! I hate rudeness and it really grates on me. It's the height of ignorance.

Oh I get very irritated but cannot be blatantly rude on face as I am not used to it. But, I would have given a cold gesture telling that I would definitely take up the matter with the authority. I think, at the most, I would have lodged a complaint to the grievance cell of the organisation. After all that's what they are being paid for. It's their job and they should deliver it to their best of ability.
Thanks Bala.

i personally reprimand them.
this happened to me several times, specially low paying hotels under payed employees they tend to be lazy.
Most of all, the problem is behavioral they just are not good at customer service!
it happened in a low class hotel maybe four star, she keeps on talking to her friend.. chatting about their boyfriends and all their friends status, while we are waiting bunch of us to check out... she didnt look at our line.. as if we dont exist..
i cant help it, i slam something, she was shocked and she saw angry faces looking at her.. i reprimanded her.. she didnt even say sorry to us.. duh!
for some cases
i usually ask them politely, but if they still are not listening, i always say... "you better quit being in customer relation services, your better a wh*re"
i know this is bad, bad mouth.. but when they do that always, keeping guest irritated and stressed because of their actions... its better they taste a little spank of ego! they'll never learn..
Good receptionist always gets promoted, they dont give you problems.. and i guess all around the world they are just 75%, the rest are lost minded and flying thoughts..
well, take care^_^ balasri^_^

If a receptionist over the phone is rude or uncaring, I am turned off immediately. I do realize they have a job to do but don't need to respond in a negative manner to the caller. I find this to be especially annoying if the receptionist works for a doctor's office.
A few years ago I worked as a receptionist for three psychologists. The job was pretty intense but there was no need to take it out on the patient. I was the first person these patient's saw and spoke with each time they came to the office. My job was not only to get information and background but make the patient comfortable. I did my job, did it well and worked until the office closed and relocated to another area.

Nothing angers me more than a rude receptionist. The job of a receptionist is to greet the public and as such, they should be polite and treat the caller with great respect. I have no problem telling the receptionist's boss, (provided I get past the receptionist) about their poor phone skills when this happens to me.

It makes me mad and it also hurts my feelings that I am not getting any kind of repect from them. I get that alot. I have always been treated like that but I cannot believe I am still getting it in my adult years as well.

I usually breath deeply and tell her that it might be a good idea if she finds another job because it appears that she is unhappy with her present job and I wish her a good day. Usually the person is speechless.

Hi my friend, Balasri.
MY REACTION:
I jot down the chronological data of my call; date and time. I will make another/next call, but at this time I will record our conversation till the end and of course, I will remind that receptionist about my first/previous call for his/her callow and flout reaction.
I will "CRUCIFY" the receptionist with my formal complain and I must be a formal kvetch. Sorry for using 'crucify' word in this case. Because this kind of receptionist really incensed me.
MY FEELING:
Of course I feel beneath contempt and disregards. Wrong person sitting at wrong place. If he/she like to treat me that way, better work as storekeeper and fights with all staffs and don't work as receptionist.
Happy Postings and Earnings, Balasri.
HAPPY DAPPY.

Well this is a complicated question. If they are just uninterested but take the message I really don't care.. Peopl have bad days.. Could be a temp who could care less if anything happened as they will not be there next week.
If they are rude and snappy then I get snappy back. IF they are so rude sometimes I'll swear and get upset. Every once and a while I'll get so upset that I'll phone and complain about the person.
I find most receptionists very pleasant. I find telephone customer service reps very rude.
