Hobo, the greatest cat in the world

Hobo was a great cat!! He was a neighborhood stray. I started by feeding him once a week or so, then gradually more often. He also started out sitting 2 yards away from me, gradually moving closer as I talked to him. I called him Hobo, the people down the street called him "Handsome Stranger." When I realized he was injured I had a friend that said if I would take him in, she'd pay for his medical bills. It turned out he had FIV. The vet said, “Since he’s a stray and has FIV I’ll put him to sleep.” I said: “He may be a stray, but he’s MY stray!!!!” He had him fixed, but couldn’t fix his injury then. He had a great gapping wound on the side of his neck that we had to wait 5 months before he was fattened up enough to stretch the skin to stitch him up. Took 33 stitchs, pulled his ear to the side & he had paralisis on that side of his face. He had also lost his fangs at some point so I didn't have any worries about him giving it to the other cats. He was UGLY, so ugly he was cute, & very, very sweet. Amazing for a stray tom that I knew nothing about. Poor old guy became diabetic & was insulin resistant. He was so funny tho, LOVED potatos. We still miss the silly guy especially when we're peeling potatoes or opening tuna, he'd make such a racket!

He was totally awesome. After the first time I got my hands on him, he was a totally changed cat. It took months of feeding him, but that first head scratch & he was like "oh, I remember this - this is GOOD!"

Don't be sorry. I mean, I'm sad I lost him, but that is NOTHING beside the pleasure of having known him in the first place. He was a love. He only had love left in him, well, a little impatients with other, younger, healthier cats, but toward people, he only had love.

Oh Elic thats so sad...I hate to hear about a poor stray being hurt and no one cared for him..I am so happy that he had you..I do hope he lived long enough to have a great life with you and your friend...I feel so sorry for poor anomals that people just leave or drop off somewhere.I often wonder what those poor animlas think...

they told me that Hobo was between 5-7 years old, I took him in in like 1996, he lived to 2002 I think it was. and considering that he was a totally outside TOM and that he some how knocked his fangs out, he obviously couldn't catch prey there at the end, lost all his fights, etc. fixing him was the only option he had to live any amount more.

Hi Doll, I have found that strays are often the sweetest animals..it's almost like they are so thankful to finally have a human that care that they are so happy...It's nice that you could be Hobo's human..it would have been sad for him to not have one.. oxxoxoxoxo

When I started feeding him, I thought he was a feral. It was only after I managed to touch him that he came around. He must've been somebody's cute little kitten once. If they had just FIXED him, he'd've lived much longer.

What a sweet story of Hobo. Despite all that he went through in his life it's nice to know you gave him love and attention, even if he did have a funny crooked ear and face. What was important was the love he got from you. I saw the picture of him you posted..Oh no! He wasn't ugly at all. He was a handsome guy! Thank you for sharing this story Elic

Oh, he was ugly. So ugly he was absolutely cute! He was quite a fellow! Everyone should have such a love in their lives. And he NEVER deserved what happened to him, but he never resented it, he totally loved everyone that came to our houses.

What a sweet story. I love it when we find such a great kitty that is silly also. When we open tuna out cats love it also. My husband puts down the empty tuna can and lets the cats clean the water out of the can.

That was very sweet of you to take him in like that. I bet he was a real character of a cat.

He was. He used to get on the former roommate's chest & stomp around and get his paws under her top, and look blissful. No something everyone would like to do, but he enjoyed it.

He was just a big baby really, looking for someplace soft to knead.
