What is in your kitchen you just can't throw out?

I bought this cheap 4 cup plastic measuring cup in a dollar store a few years ago. Within a month or so the numbers had all worn off. I have used it each morning to froth my milk for my cappuccino and it has a stripe worn into it. I use it to water the plants. It seems I am always using it. I have a real love hate relationship with the thing. I even have a fancy new measuring cup I never use. Why this thing has a hold on me I'll never know. Is there something in your kitchen that you just can't live without? Something you just can't seem to put in the garbage?

That's a funny story and I can really relate to it! All the responses were interesting to read too. I am staying in my brother's 'spare house' right now and using it as an opportunity to sort through all my stuff, getting rid of things I don't actually love and packing up the rest. One thing that I am unable to get rid of in the kitchen because I love it even though it doesn't work is a froggy liquid soap dispenser. It has never worked right but it is so cute I leave it there anyway... there's not even anything else I can do with it, just feel good when I look at his cheery little face sitting there on the back of the sink. I do that a lot with clothing though. I have some really nice things, expensive, well made, beautiful... but what do I consistently wear? The old baggy stained ripped comfortable things! Hehehe.

I have what I like to call my comfort shirts, they have holes down the front and are stained but I love them and when I am down I take one out and wear it around the house.

I have an apron that my hubby's grandmother gave me years ago for Christmas when we were first dating. Not possitive, but I think it is quite likely that she made it herself. It is frilly and flowery and stained and faded and I never wear it, myself, but I let the grandkids use it when they have good clothes on that we don't want them to soil while eating. It hangs on their coat hooks by the back door, and every time we have moved I have considered getting rid of it when I throw out other things that are rarely used. But I just can't bring myself to do it. i actually see this grand old lady's face when I look at it and she has been 'gone' for 25 years! Thanks for asking this question, I have really enjoyed reading everyone's answers!

After all these years she is still remembered, that's sweet. I would have a hard time parting with it too.

Oh wow...there are several items in my kitchen that I can't seem to part with. First would be an apron that someone gave me that has "I went to college 4 years for this?" screenprinted across the front. I never wear the apron, but can't part with it. I also have a little pig that is made from plastic canvas and yarn that my mother gave me. I use it to put a few sweetner packets in on the table. I have one bowl left from a set of 4 that for some reason I particularly enjoy using for my cereal in the mornings. Strange how we grow attached to items and can't part with them isn't it? !

I have a very old pizza cutter that has even been repaired that I can't seem to lose. I bought a new one, but that one disappeared. I think it went home in a box of leftovers with someone by mistake. But the old one just sticks around.

I'm thinking the old one works better than the new...

I had to run over to the kitchen to look. I couldn't think of a thing. I got rid of so much stuff on this move that I am still grieving for my stuff. Be careful of throwing out too much in a moment of wild abandonment! You might regret it. Anyway, I found my trusty Ginzu (Ginsu) knife. I bought it over 30 years ago and it's still working just great! Also, I have a wonderful green mixing bowl that I use for decorative stuff since I don't think it is safe any longer for food....Whit

I can relate to that, every time I move I throw more and more stuff out and sometimes I really regret it too. I'm hoping on my next move I find my favorite knife.

My teddy bear canister. I use it to put my sweetener in it now but before I used it for the cookie jar when I had the lid. Somehow along the ways of moving I have lost the lid. Before it just sat on the side of the sink empty until I put it to use. So now it sits on top of the microwave with sweetener in it by the coffee pot.

I have a teapot I never use next to the sink, I think I now have an idea to put it to use, I can't stand to throw it out either!
