I have Windows XP. I need to register the "registration" number for XP, otherwise Microsoft wont recognise it. Could someone explain to me where I go on my computer to put the registration number in? Thank You.

Jenny, I think the registration no. comes with the pack of the CD. As far as I can remember we can get it from the notepad in some files of the XP CD. Its most probably a 16 digit number. However, I am not sure. Thanks.

It should have come up during installation. XP asks for the registration key during the installation of the program, along with your name and minor computer information. If your machine isn't allowing updates due to the registration key not being in, something might be wrong with your copy of XP or the installation of XP. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/install.mspx That has the installation process and it comes with screenshots for every step. You might have not activated your machine to Microsoft. Its also possible Microsoft isn't recognizing your computer. This may describe it better. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/evaluation/features/activation.mspx

Thanks for these two links. I am going to look them up right now. Microsoft doesn't recognise my version of Windows XP.
