What names have you given to your pets? And any interesting explanations? - MOLLY, my first ever pet, golden retriever, who was adopted soon after my birth, was named after her beautiful mother. - CHIPPY, my first cat, who was like a beloved brother to me over the years... His full name was (yes, I was a young child when naming him) POTATO CHIPS. The reason was because my family was eating potato chips, and he loved them! He wanted them so badly, and begged for them all the time. So we named him Potato Chips (Chippy for short). More names and stories to go, but would like to hear your reasons! :o)

Aww, thanks for that full response. It's so nice when you have a meaningful name for a reason. That's often for like human babies. I'd want to have a perfect name that matches them perfectly. Purrs and Happy barks to you, Gabs!

Our first pets were a pair of kittens that my aunt's cat had. Magic was the male and was all black Baby was female and gray tabby colored They had 5 kittens...oy. They were Blackie, Funny Face and 3 others I can't remember, lol. We didn't keep them and got rid of Baby, too (took them to a shelter). Magic was with us until my children were little, almost 20 years. He was kind of losing it in his old age and became belligerent towards my children and as much as I loved the cat (we got him when I was almost 9) he had to go because I care about my children's safety more. While we had Magic we also had several other cats including Oreo and Eddie and Marlo who were siblings we got from a friend. They had 3 kittens: Doodle, Cutie and Jorgie. Jorgie (pronounced like Georgie) was named after our friend Jorge (who was always called George) because they were both loud and crazy. We couldn't have that many cats in the house so Marlo and the kittens went to the shelter. We kept Eddie for a few years but there was something wrong with that cat and finally we took him in, too. Then I found a little black female cat in the alley when I was in high school. I called her Folly. We had her for about 9 years or so and she was taken to the shelter the same time Magic was. At some point inbetween getting Magic and finding Folly we also had 2 guinea pigs (at different times) called Mo and Paco and 2 dogs (at different times) called Angel and Casey. Last spring we got 2 puppies for the kids. They were part chocolate lab and part Doberman, both females...Labonte and Sadler (named after Nascar drivers). But we ended up having to move a few months later and my dad wouldn't let us keep them so they live with my sister in law now. Not sure we will ever have pets again, though. Shortly after getting the puppies we found out our son (now 6) is severely allergic to cats and dogs. So no cats for us (they cause his face to swell up in a matter of minutes if he is even in the same house/area as one). he never had a reaction to our dogs but has had reactions to other dogs so probably no dogs either. :( I really wanted another cat, too.

Sorry about the allergy your son has. Growing up, my sister's best friend- she was allergic. And I used to always go over her house with my sister. They had cats! And she loved them, they played with them. (Her mother was an animal lover, and would not put up with her daughter not living with them). So, believe it or not, as I admire her, the daughter took shots every single day, until it seemed like no big deal at all, to protect her allergies. The cats were well loved. Poor animals that you guys had to keep leaving behind. I really feel fo them. Though I do always wish I could have my past loving pets' offspring, I would never go against having them spade/neutered, for safety, and to help the following generations from beign put to sleep at shelters. It's so sad how many are homeless, never loved, or put to sleep when at a shelter for a bit, or if they catch a simple cold. :o( Animals bring us such happiness.

We only have one pet, a mixed breed, (not sure what she is, part beagle?) but her name is LUCKY LADY. We named her that because we adopted her from the vets office just a day before her and her siblings were going to be put to sleep. We were LUCKY to have found her, she is an amazing addition to our family. P.S. I had told the veterinarian to call me if they hadn't found homes for the other 3 dogs because I would adopt them too and they contacted me the next day, all found homes!!

Oh, you are a good person. And great news about the dogs finding homes. Hope Lucky Lady is doing well. it's funny because my birthday is this weekend, and I requested for family to take me to (not to adopt, unfortunately, yet; we have two darling pets right now) an animal shelter. That's what I did last year. Just to spend time with the poor guys. We're going today and to another place tomorrow! :o) And of course small donations.

I currently dont have any pets. Growing up I had 2 cats. We got T.C. when I was two and I was going through a "mine" stage so My Cat was named after me. T.C. is Tricia's Cat. Our second cat, was a stray kitten that got into a car accident and had to have one of his legs amputated. So our black 3-legged cat was named Lucky because he was "lucky to be alive" Currently i dont have any pets. I have a bamboo plant that I call Boo.

I have 3 pets, 2 cats and a dog. I started out with 1 cat, we call him squeak. When we first got him as a kitten we were going to call him Shadow, but somehow that didn't seem right. My husband and I thought it over discussed every possible name but none of them seemed right or fitting. So we decided to wait and see what his character was like. We had gone to bed and left him to get to know our home because he was so shy and skittish. About 2 am I heard a lot of squeaking. I had gotten up to investigate. It turned out to be our new kitten sounding like a mouse. Mose or Mousy didn't sound right either but Squeak sounded perfect. And that's how he got his name. Our second cat Bella is a very beautiful cat, that's how I named her. But of course Princess should have been her name since she acts like one most of the time, and she even has a royal walk to her when she wants to show off. In the last 2 months we had inherited a dog from a friend who moved over seas and could afford to take her dog. She had asked me to find him a home or it will be put down. I had discussed with my husband and we had talked to everyone we knew and everyone said they didn't want a dog. Well we couldn't let it be put down so after much more discussion, finance rearranging, we decided to take him on as part of our Family. The first thing everyone asked was what about our cats, they are about a year now and might not take to the dog. Were we going to keep them as well? Well 2 months on and all 3 are the best of mates. I forgot My dog name is Hercules. Didn't take me long to figure out that he may be a skinny dog (whippet) but he is incredibly strong.

Hi, and thanks for that lovely reply. "Squeak!" Gosh, when I first thought of that, I thinking, "Pip Squeak?" How mean. But then the just squeak part, I got it. That's the best when you want a really matching name. Shows the most thought. You wouldn't want to have named him: "Roar" or "Lion" (hee hee). Bella is a pretty name. I know another whose pet is named Bella. Hercules is cute too. He must be a hero! ;o)

I have a German Shepherd Dog named Jack. We named him Jack because everyone in my family is a huge fan of the TV show Lost. And the main character of the show's name is Jack Shepherd. So we thought it was fitting to name him Jack because he is a Shepherd.

That's a cute name, and matching as your whole family loves the character. And so matching with the "Shepherd" part too. :o)
