Healthy fingernails and toe nails are strong, colorless and smooth. Yellowing, brittleness, ridges, crumbling and white spots are all signs that nail may not be completely healthy and may indicate health issues. Trimming the fingernails can also prevent dirt, and disease causing viruses or germs from hiding underneath. Although this can be eliminated by proper care and hand washing. I trim my fingernails once a week since its already to long if I wait for another week to do it. A friend of mine usually trims her nail, twice a week. Growth rate may depend probably on the individual. How often do you trim your fingernails?

clean fingernails - manage to clean your fingernails as often as possible
I trim my fingernails once a week. In one way or another, our fingernails reflect how conscious we are about hygiene. Well, it doesn't have to be short to be clean. I know of other people who grow their fingernails but they are conscious of their hygiene but long fingernails accumulate more dirt than short fingernails. Besides, it's difficult to work on some activities when our fingernails are long.

I do the same for mine, its usually once a week. There are disadvantages of having long fingernails like what you have said. However there are people who have long fingernails and manage to handle the situation quite well. As for me, it is somewhat uncomfortable and its not appropriate to my job to have long fingernails. Such is the reason why I always trim them from time to time.

Sunday mornings are my grooming time.I apply the oil to my hair.I clip my nails and do whatever I want to do to make myself presentable throughout the week.My mom was very strict in clipping off my nails to perfection. That habit stuck with me.

Wow, that is very good. A day for grooming and pampering. That is certainly a good habit.

well my fingernails grow quite fast i have to admit, but i don't cut them immediately. i like to keep them long. so they'll grow to a particular length, then they'll stop growing. hehhehe i will keep it like that until one or a part of my nails get broken. then it doesn't look nice so i cut them. i would say my nails are stronger than others here as like some, theirs tend to peel off or get broken easily. or most of them bite their nails. i'm neither.

Well, its good to know your nails are very healthy. I think what we eat and the nutrients in our food will affect our health including our fingernails and toenails.

I do it whenever I feel they're too long. This can be also twice a week. When I was younger I used to have longer nails but I can't stand it anymore.

Some people like long nails and some doesn't. Some are bound to trim it due to the work that they do. For me, it doesn't really matter if it long or short as long as its clean and presentable.

There was a time when my nail was yellow and brittle and it was a big concern for me because I didn't want my nail to look hideous. I was wondering what made them unhealthy and then I realized that the "nail strengthening" coat I was putting was to blame. That product was more harm than good so I stopped - I had my nails cleaned but had not coat put on them. Ever since then, I have never put on nail polish and/or strengthening coats. I just have them cleaned, and that's it. I trim my nails once in two weeks - I let the grow a little then cut them really short :D I don't like cutting my nails while they're still generally short, I sometimes end up hurting myself because I cut it too deep. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I see, well, I think you are doing the right thing. Some of those coating may end up creating problems though they could also make the nails nice to look at. I think it would depend on what kind you use. I also trim my nails when its a little bit long, not when its short since it does hurt.

Normally I trim my fingernails once a fortnight. I might trim them in a shorter time if I find it long enough to be trimmed. I find it is easier to trim them after having bath as they always become softer and easily to be cut. I find more convenient and comfy to type with shorter fingernails.

Yes, I do believe that it is much easier to trim after a bath since the tissues are much softer when wet. I do feel the same when my fingernails are short.

Yes, it is really important to teach the children and make it a habit to maintain cleanliness of the hands and trimming of the fingernails. Most especially that the children play with a lot of stuff and dirt, or germs may end up underneath.

I have a bad habit that I actually bite my nails so they never get long enough to trim unfortunately. But it's very interesting that if you have those signs that the nails may not be completely healthy that it may be due to a health issue. Have a nice day.

I file them every couple of days. I cut once a month. You realy can tell if you have health problems by your nails.

My fingers, hardly ever because my nails peel off. They're very week in that respect however they're strong but tear very easily. Now my toe nails, I trim them about once every three to four weeks or so. They grow very slow.

I see, I am not sure if its alright to have fingernails peeling off easily. Hope its fine and there is no problem. With respect to the toe nails they actually grow 3-4 times slower than the fingernails.

Maybe every week and a half. I don't like long nails. If they're sortof long I'll accidentally poke my other finger with them sometimes. I don't bite my nails but I used to bite my fingers since.. for maybe 6 years or more? I got it from my dad but I think I recently stopped.. I think it is a habit from stress (which I still have) but now I also have braces so it is too difficult to do.

Sounds like the average time of growth. I used to have the habit of putting my fingers on my mouth when I was about 5 or 6. Though, I don't bite my fingers.

Once in a fortnight. I usually shape my nails regularly and keep them tidy. But cutting the nails I do only once in a firtnight. Otherwise my nails don't chip or split. Lack of nutrients hurt nails, Improve the food intake and you see your nails shining in health with that natural pink colour.

Right, proper nutrition can greatly affect our fingernails and our overall health as well. Its nice to have a healthy body. By looking at our fingernails appearance, we could also see possible health issues that need to be addressed. An unhealthy fingernails may indicate health conditions.

I think the last time I cut my finger nails was about 13 years ago. I always bite them, almost every morning. I'm not nervous, I just quite like doing it! I only tend to do it when they are clean after just having come out of the shower.. they are soft and 'ripe'. I suppose that this question was more designed to women though!

Hahahaha, again another habit that is hard to break. Well, actually I think men and women have their own way of handling things. Its just we see that women do more of taking care of their body in a feminine manner. Most of them go to a saloon and have their hair, nails and other things taken care off. While we usually handle it on our own except the haircut.

I cut my fingernails about once a month cause that is how long it takes for them to get too long and they end up in my way.

Well, I guess your fingernails take some time to grow as compared to other people. But I don't know it that is abnormal or normal. I believe that each of us are different from each other.

I hate to admit it, but i am an obsessive compulsive finger nail biter. Its a bad habit that i have been trying to kick for sometime now but none the less here I am. I suppose that if i had to pick a bad habit to keep for life, its one of the less harmful ones.

I see, well some have different habits it could be good or bad. I am not in the position to say what your doing is wrong or not. But you should also consider that you may have this tendency to get sick if assuming that your fingers are dirty. But I presume that you are aware of this and are taking the necessary precautions. At least as you have said, at least its least harmful rather than other bad habits.
