Thick or Thin, what do you serve yours in?

For drinking your Tea or other hot beverage (coffee, cocoa?) do you prefer a thick hefty stoneware mug or do you prefer a dainty bone china cup? --- myself, I love the hefty feel of a stoneware mug - I like the roundness on my lip and the ability to wrap my hands around the mug with bone china I sometimes feel as if my teeth will clink and shatter it - it is too delicate for me and I do not get near the sensual satisfaction as I get from a good old mug. I am currently using my favorite - a brown drip glaze - which I believe was made by HULL the bottom just says ovenproof USA it reminds me of the old bean pots.

I like to use thick mug and i have few of them. they are not only thick cermaic but laos really huge, like half liter or so. It would be nice to use some porcelan, but only if someone come for visit, just for me in norman day, it seems like too much trouble.

either,as long as it's not plastic. coffee in plastic cups is just plain nasty for some reason. china is the best for tea, however :)

I'm a mug girl too. I have quite a collection of mugs that have been given to me as gifts. I have one from the college my oldest son went to, one from the college my daughter is attending, one from the college at which I teach, one that my parents gave me when I turned 50 and many more! I am particular about my mugs, I want them heavy, with a handle wide enough to easily grab and accomodate my fingers, and not so short and shallow! I prefer the really big mugs rather than the regular coffee-size cup. My family had a set of the Hull mugs you are describing, seems each family member ended up with a few of them from my grandmother! They really do remind me of the old bean pots too!

Then you are drinking your tea out of a collectable. Hull is known to have fine pottery...and is sought after by some. I like to also drink out of mugs. I think the beverage stays warmer and my favorite one is a special mug my best friend gave me for christmas with a snowman on it...I also have one that says Old Fart on it that I use when I need something to make me smile...it was my father's!

I like mugs, and a heavy, hefty mug is good. I have a variety of mugs and change favorites often. One I got recently has no handle, so the tea has to cool a bit before I drink it, but I like it because its opening is narrow and the bottom is fat. That way the tea doesn't cool too fast. When it's not too hot to handle the mug, I hold it in both hands and drink. There's just something old-fashioned, I guess, about drinking tea that way. That's my favorite mug for now, definitely thick.

Mostly I like to use a mug. Probably because I am greedy and you can get more liquid into the mug. However, if I am out at a restaurant or hotel, I would expect a cup. I suppose that is because I associate it with fine dining and civilised behaviour.
