Do you use spices on your food? Besides salt and pepper is there any other ones you use? Do you use any herbs? I like to use different spices on my food when I am cooking. Yesterday I used a lemon and herbs spice on my chicken and I baked it. It was so good, but my hubby says I put too much on it. I disagree but everyone has different tastes. I really like bay leaves on my beef. I also like rosemary on my chicken. I like to put chili on a lot of my dishes, too. So what spices do you use?

I use a vast array of herbs and spices - and I prefer fresh herbs, and to grind spices as needed as they are fresher that way. But, I must tell you, I am Sous Chef at a bar and restaurant, so a good spice and herb library i essential to preparing a variety of dishes from around the world. Although I live in the Sonoran desert, and love Sonoran cuisine, I also enjoy middle Eastern, Thai, Greek, Celtic, Bosnian, and a goodly variety of others. When I was a young lad my family lived in the Imperial Valley, two towns, Brawley, and El Centro, and we were a short hop from the Mexican Boarder, and into Mexicali. So...I did not eat much "gringo" food until I was older. Here I am a White-Boy Hillbilly from Virginia...growing up thinking everyone ate Huevos Ranchero, with Chorizo, Refritos conQueso, and lots of Pico De Gallo for breakfast. I took Enchiladas and Pollo Quesadillas to school for lunch. The first time I ate at someone's house and they served salisbury steak and mashed potatoes -I went on a salsa hunting expidition. I know Southern cooking as well, and some of that requires herbs and spices, especially the Cajun dishes. The trick is to use fresh herbs and spices, do not over complicate the flavor with too many spices/herbs, and do not put herbs into the food too early - they overcook and become bitter. Here is a free tip for you: To make your Chili taste extremely good, add about two tblsp. Cinnamon to a gallon of Chili. Cinnamon, without sugar, is not sweet, and you will not tste it in the Chili, but it augments and brings out the nuances of the other ingredients. Last trick: You can buy a cheap cut of meat, say a large chuck steak...place it in a cambro, or tupperware container, pour in enough Squirt, or 7-UP to just cover it. Put a lid on it and lkeave it in refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours. The CO2 and citric acids will tenderize it. Rinse it, drain, and cook (Broil, Grill, Barbeque, etc. It will be as tender as a New York Steak, for abouyt 1/3 the price.

My ex always had a habit of putting spices and herbs on everything! I hated bayleaves which he used to put in the bolognaise and would always push it off the plate in disgust! It was all fancy cooking to him, nothing was simple or basic everything had to have something on it. Just give me basic salt anyday. Sorry but I am fussy about my food and I don't like the frills. He also used ginger a lot, which kinds of put me off now

I love spices! Right now I am eating a grilled swiss cheese and leftover baked chicken sandwich. I put tomatoes, basil and pineapple sage on it from my garden. I'm lucky that I live in Florida and can have fresh herbs and tomatoes pretty much year round. I have tons of spices and use them all. I have a bakers rack which is packed with spices, a spice rack over my stove and another rack over my microwave. I also have staple spices in huge containers that I purchase at the wholesale club in my pantry.

I will put some honey or soymilk in my meat, that can help meat taste wonderful, but I can not sure can this be called spice. Pepper are welcomed by some people here, especially in the winter, that can help people keep cold and other illness away.

I think spices give the food extra taste. Yeah, I agree with you. My mom loves experimenting with them in her cooking. Herbs and spices that she uses are saffron, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves and sometimes cayenne. I especially like cloves, they smell really nice. Cinnamon is good sprinkled on toast. But just a little. I love chicken marinaded in spices as well.

I like to use chili powder on anything that has the word chili in it. I dont really know alot about spices. I have just started my spice collection cuz I have just started cooking different recipes and it has called for different spices. So I dont really know what spices I like the best yet but the most common ones would be chili powder and garlic. Yum!!!

I love spices so much that I even go to a specialty store to buy special mixes and hard to find items. Here are a few things that I use often in my kitchen - basil, parsley, bay leaves, ground mustard, ground ginger, rosemary, celery salt, and things like onion and garlic powder.

I love to cook with herbs and spices. I have created several different herb and spice blends that my family and friends enjoy. I use garlic, onion, basil, dill, thyme and rosemary a lot. Cumin is also an interesting spice ans is very versatile. It works in more than just mexican or southwestern cooking. The use of spices and herbs in food can also reduce the need for salt to flavor foods, therefore making them healthier.

Species are must to enhance the taste of the dishes. But it is said you husband we should have a measurement value. Too much increase of spices cause to badly suffer the taste of the dishes and it may also cause to waste your hard work in kitchen. So we should use an estimated quantity instead of using it with out any rule of application.

I enjoy using a variety of spices such as Black pepper, Salt, Oregano, Basil, Cayan pepper, parsley and anything else I find that I think may go well with the particular meal I'm cooking at that time. I don't think I could live without a little spice in my life ;)

I make my own chili seasoning and taco seasoning, so I use a bunch of different ones to make those. I like to use Fines Herbs on my chicken sometimes. It is a mix of several spices(can't recall what at the moment). I sometimes use paprika, garlic powder and onion powder on my chicken also. I use bay leaf in my beef stew and French onion soup.

I like rosemary and ginger on pork. I cooked a lamb leg, first doused with lemon juice then inserted minced garlic into slits all around the lamb leg. The lamb leg was the best piece of meat I ever ate. It was rotisseried after it was seasoned.

Being an India, spices are the backbone of our cooking. Any given Indian curry, however bland will have at least turmeric, chillies, cumin and coriander apart from the usual salt and some sugar. Apart from these, I use bay leaf too, and fenugreek and asoefetida. Yesterday for dinner we had curd fish. I had made a paste of onion, ginger, garlic, chillies, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, and curd and marinated the fried fish for an hour and then I cooked it in slow fire. Yummmmmmmm. Today I plan to cook cottage cheese and bell pepper curry. It will have almost identical spices but tomatoes instead of the curd. I love spices…food is just too bland without them.

We make two beef dishes with bay leaves and cloves. Instead of salt we put Bragg's Amino Acid seasoning on after cooking. The first is ox tail soup and the other is beef tongue. We like spices and use quite a bit more seasoning than most recipes call for. There is no such thing as too much garlic, either, in our opinion. On that hubby and I agree, although he does require quite a bit more hot pepper on things than I do.

MMMMmmmMM sounds delicious. I may have to try that sometimes. Anywho, I am laotian and laotian cooking uses a lot of herbs and spices. I personally love lemon leaves, lemon grass, ginger, basil, mints, cilantro, and scallions. I love thai red hot chilli peppers! I would slice then up and put them in most of my meals. And sometimes I'd eat it whole. Whenever I eat speghetti, I'd usually eat it with red peppers. It gives it a little zing. Peppers also clears up my nose when I have a cold. Have you ever tried putting some paprika in your scrambled eggs?? It's very good.. well at least for me. Ahh, all this food talk is making my mouth water. Happy dining!

my mom uses spices not only my mom, im an Indian. im living in the state of tamil nadu, its a boon to me.our food always cooked up with spices. spices add a very good taste to the food.. its not only for flavour n deliciousness but also for our health. there are lots n lots of spices other than pepper, for example say turmeric, cardamom leaves , coriander, ginger , pudhina, chilli, cummin, garlic, onion, cinnamon ,etc each has it own values n usefulness... say pepper is a good medecine for cough, cardamom seeds are used for the treament of itching throat and turmeric, its a good anti oxidant and ease of liver complaints n like wise a lot to say about every spice , so a spicy food is not only a tastier one and it makes the body fit n healthy, as an Indian i have to say , the spice production is mainly only in our country.
