What is your fear or phobia?

My fear is touching or being near fish. I can't stand the thought of a slimy fish coming near me. If I swim in the ocean I have to block it out and think that there are no fish in there, lol. My fear started since I was a kid, when my sister threw fish guts/eye balls at me. Ever since then I have not been able to shake my fear of fish. Wanted to know people's fears on here and how they think they started?? ALso most importantly have you been able to get rid of this fear? I am currently looking into EFT - it is a tapping technique that helps people get rid of fears. I will keep you updated if it works.

not nice kiran what your sis did-it would make me dislike fish forever-you are brave to face your fear-i had one big fear of reptiles at one time til i went to africa when i went to a reptile farm and fell inlove with chameleons and the little gheckos that used to run around on the ceiling they were so cute-when my ex and i got back to england we bought a chameleon then gheckos then bearded dragons but then my worst fesrever was when my ex bought a ball python snake there was no way i could ever feed it or even hold it it scared me silly-also too feed the other reptiles we had my ex had to do it as they were all crickets,mealworms,locusts and it took me over a year to be able to actually bring myself to feed them-so that was a fear and phobia i had got over-but the snake took me longer as we got a couple more cornsnakes-eventually i got over my fear of snakes and was able to hold them now they are my favourite reptile and its not long that i had a 9foot boa constrictor whom we had got as a baby but she grew to big for the vivarium and so i had to give her to a reptile shop it broke my heart and iwas upset for ages and still miss her but that is another story-she was gorgeous-littleowl

Wow you are very brave, don't think I could ever bring myself to hold a snake. It is good to know that it is possible to overcome our fears. Thanks for your story, littlowl.

Hmmm, I think I have few things that I'm troubled about. Spiders do scare me but not much as before. Now, I'm really certain that I have fear of heights even though I'm a tall person. I guess exposure to such fears and overcoming them is a good way to get rid of such fears. I wish I could skydive to get rid of this fear I have for heights. Now I don't know about spiders though.. ^_^;

Hi ratyz, thanks for your response. I think a lot of people have fear of heights. I definately do too, I would also love to skydive but I think I would chicken out in the plane. But it would be an awesome feeling, feel like your flying like a bird.I do agree with you that exposure to our fears will help us overcome them, but it is very hard to do. I can not bring myself to hold or touch a slimy fish.

I'd get you to wear a blind fold and have you touch something slimy ^_^ Of course, its for you to overcome that fear.. not to make fun of you.

My fear is snakes. I am terrified of them. Even watching something on tv that has any snakes on it I won't be able to sleep later.

I'm glad you can't post a pic in a response. I'm sure I could do without seeing it.

I fear of being drowned that's why I don't know how to swim. I'm scared of deep water. Maybe there's something under will pull my legs. I fear of driving even becycle. I fear of cockroaches. I look at them as dirty insects. When they're flying around the house. I'm running away from them or hide in a room. I can't stand with cockroaches. I hate them. I hope EFT will work for you. I'm waiting if it works.

I am afraid of spiders. I have a combination fear of heights and close spaces but, not heights or close spaces alone. It is really weird. I also hate Centipedes and Millipedes. They scare the crud out of me. I fear ferrets and, this is the only fear that I can think of where I actually know why I am afraid of them. Back when I was a kid, our next door neighbors would bring home their city trash which would sit out on the city street for days before they would bring it home. They were too cheap to pay for city trash pick up so, they used their residential trash pick up to toss their city trash from their job. Because it would sit outside for days each week before they would bring it home, rats and mice would get into the trash and they would then transport the rats and mice in the trash with them to our neighborhood. As I said, they lived next door to us which meant those rats and mice would make their way onto our property and into our house. My sister and I had the entire upstairs area to ourselves. There was a bedroom, a bathroom, a little living room, the laundry room and a dormer and other storage areas. Those mice and rats would make their ways up to our "bedroom" (the entire upstairs area). We set out traps and caught a few but, they continued to get fat eating our toys and the rest of the storage in the doormer. My dad found out that ferrets and rats and mice are natural enemies and there was a company that raised ferrets specifically to rent out to people who had unwanted pests in their houses. The ferret would get set loose in the area and in a couple of days, it would usually be able to catch and kill the mice and rats. I am an animal lover and was so excited about having a fuzzy animal in the house like a ferret. So, I made up an excuse to go upstairs to my room to "get something" so I could maybe get to see and possibly play with the ferret. I did not know that the ferret was actually vicious, not only to the pesky disease carrying wild rats and mice in my bedroom and the surrounding upstairs areas of my childhood. It was also vicious to humans. So, I saw it and it started running at me. I started to run for the stairs where it lunged, jumped up my left leg and attached itself to my left leg on the outside of my knee with its teeth. It hung there as I ran down the stairs only falling off of me after I kicked my leg outward to fling it off. I still have a scar from the nasty little varment and a horrible fear of those aweful creatures!
