So, TMZ is reporting that and executive director from Autism United has asked that Big Brother be cancelled because they chose to air what Adam while using the word "retards". How do you feel about this? Perhaps Big Brother should not have aired it but, I disagree that it was to reach a goal. They didn't put it in the commercials and, yes, they do edit things for the best content but, I don't think that it should be cancelled. Adam should not have used that word. But, he did, it caused controversy inside the house between he and Sheila, CBS aired it. So what! Get over it!

Of course the show should not be cancelled! I'm sick and tired of people wanting to make reality TV non-realistic. People say stupid things and things that are out of line. If a TV show got cancelled everytime someone didn't appreciate something that was said by one of the people, we would only have the news and cartoons and even the news is questionable. The outrage that was expressed by the other people on the show showed that his terminology was totally inappropriate. If anything, Adam should lose his job because if he works with disabled children and then doesn't have any more respect than to speak derogatorily about them, he has no business being around these children.

I agree! It is a reality tv show and he was realistically being as much of an idiot as any other real person can be. And, this is one of the reason that I love Big Brother. CBS and Big Brother do censor some stuff that goes on inside of the house but, it is as raw and as real as it gets. I also agree that if everything got cancelled for bad stuff said, there would be nothing to watch. I doubt that there is a man or woman alive that can honestly say that they have never made a derogatory response about someone else. Can you imagine if each person were "cancelled" for making some boneheaded remark?

i agree completely...i mean it's reality tv...you know, supposed to be real? and people say stupid things all the time, just usually the whole world isn't watching-but that's what makes it so good-the unpredictibility of it all-you just never know.

You are fairly close on Autism. My son has some disabilties when it comes to school but he is very smart in some areas. Each case is different some being very severe and some not so severe. My son is still too young to know the full extent but so far hes doing okay. Autism is mainly a social issue but like I said there are other issues like my son cant write if his life depended on it and hes 7 but give him a book and he can read it no problem go figure lol. Its one of those conditions that can be so different for each person its hard to label. Now there was a mental condition at one time known as mental retardation not sure if the term is still used but it never was meant to be cruel people just turned it that way cause some people are cruel.

Hey minnie...I posted this about a month or so ago when Adam first said it and, as I was going through old discussions, I found that I hadn't responded to one of my responders and I felt bad about it so, I responded to them in an effort to right my wrong. That is why this was up front again today! But, I agree that they could have chosen not to air it but, I think they did it because it is reality tv and, I really think that BB tries to be as real as they can with us. They do edit certain things sometimes but, not this time. I don't really think I hold what he said against him either. I truly think that he didn't mean to be so cruel with his choice of words. I am glad you didn't stop watching BB for what Adam said. I understand that it might have hurt some feelings but, he was sort of generalizing and, while he should refrain from such language, he didn't actually say it to one particular person. And, I have never been really great about considering Autistic people as "retarded". Not that I am comfortable with that term at all. But, from what I know of Autism, people who are Autistic are more like Savants. Right. They tend towards brilliance but function a little less comfortably in public settings. They are highly sensitive towards noise and too much commotion which tends to exist when there is more than one or two people around. Am I understanding Autism correctly? I don't consider that mental retardation so much as a highly developed sensitivity to environmental factors. I could be way off base. I just have never really been comfortable with the use of the term "retarded" when speaking specifically of Autism.

I have to agree with you on this. It just showed his character and it was good that the show also showed how the houseguests reacted to it. I don't think it will be canceled.

I doubt that it will be cancelled too. I think that Autism United should try to look at it another way. If they can calm down and see that Adam didn't get away with it, then maybe they can see past their anger and accept it as a lesson learned on Adam's part.

I totally agree with you on that one. They should get over it. It is just a word. Sure words can hurt but if you let it bother you then it will hurt you even more. Try to at least lessen the pain of words if words bother you that is.

I agree! We give power to mean and derogatory words by our reactions to them. If you decide to just let it roll off of your back, those words become powerless!

I do not agree with the potentioal canceling of the show Big Brother 9. The show in questions has already been aired so what is the point in cencelling the rest of the shows once the tainted show has been aired? Also, people say inappropriate things online all the time! Why should a show be cancelled over someone saying something innapropriate? It was definatly innaproptiare but by no means the worst thing he could have said there were no profanaties involved. I am sure his actions were delt with in the house and with his partner. His job where he worked with 'fill in his innaproprate word here' probably had something to say to him also about his lack of respect for the children under his care. Not to mention the families of these people he is watching over were probably very very offended by his actions and his words.

I don't think that CBS should be punished. I agree that Adam should have some kind of punishment from his job.

I am sorry! Don't think I ever saw this response from you! I wasn't trying to ignore you! LOL! I am going through my old discussions to make sure there are no loose ends and, here one is! So, you know...that might have been the case. I think it did give them a little boost in the ratings as people tuned in probably to see if the hgs would say anything more controversial. Or, they just aired it because it was a part of the beginning drama between Sheila and Adam in the first place. Either way, it did drum up controversy which did at least temporarily, add to their numbers.
