Can you name at least 5 beneficial foods? Imagine a superfood powerful enough to help you lower your cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer, and for an added bonus, put you in a better mood. These life-altering superfoods are available right now in your local supermarket. Can you easy find superfoods in local market?

Well instead of regular munchie foods like potato chips or popcorn (though do sometimes get the popcorn..hehe) I buy one of those granola type cereals with almonds and raisins...love to eat it as a munchie snack...since it has oatmeal in it I know that's good for you in lower cholesterol. I just love celery in just about anything like add chopped up celery in my tuna or egg salad...also had made cream of celery soup out of it. I also stock up on the onions and garlic as I know they are beneficial too. Love to add beans (like kidney, pinto) to homemade soups. When I make chicken soup I love adding barley to it..barley is beneficial as well...think it has a lot of iron??? And even though it's winter time and most people don't think of making salads I do and prefer Romaine lettuce rather than iceburg--in fact had a salad dinner tonight. I love buying tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms.. as far as fruits...cantaulope, grapes, cherries, bananas...oh, nuts...now I'm hungry....hehe..I shouldn't talk about food now should I...LOL--think I'll get up and go get some of that granola cereal

Oatmeal is suppose to be very good for cholestrol. Pomegranates are suppose to help fight cancer. Blueberries are a powerful antioxidant. Green and white tea are too. Broccoli has lots of fiber. Fish is beneficial in several areas.

You get it all right. Broccoli is well known for high content of Vit C , K and A... Broccoli contains the phytonutrients sulforaphane and the indoles, which have significant anti-cancer effects.

This topic is so tempting and at the same time, could benefit both our health and our heart. For me, the foods should atleast contain the highest amount of which you're looking for. Foods to lower cholesterol are those which possess usually are, oats and wheats. Fish that contains Omega3 fatty-acids, any type of nuts and soy. For foods that reduces the risk of cancer and heart disease, I strongly advise you to try pineapple. Pineapples are rich with Phyto-chemicals, that helps fight the Big C (cancer) and as well as heart disease. Whole grains are best also, along with soy and those which are rich with fiber. The one's I have enumerated above are all available in our local markets and easy to find, though some of them costs more. There are also foods that are packed with these beneficial nutrients, even if you don't have to buy the right product.

Most of mine have already been mentioned but I've got to weigh in on this discusssion because I believe healthy eating is very important for a long healthy life. My list includes, garlic, oatmeal, bluberries, apples, pecans, fish oil and broccoli rabe. One little known food that I have learned has many great health enhancing qualities is Goji Berries

I found a very reasonably priced source at at a local GNC Store. Its called Gojisplash. It is a Goji Berry Juice Drink. A 32 fl oz. (946ml) supplies 32 Servings or about a months supply. Each serving provides 11,000 mg of Goji.

There are a number of superfoods available at our grocery. Sadly, we have become such a nation of 'processed foods' that we often overlook the foods that are better for us! My list of superfoods (all of which I eat/drink in large quantities( inlcudes: blueberries, teas (several types), brocolli, freshfruit, walnuts, oatmeal, and dried beans. There are many others, but those are the ones that I consume regularly. I have been able to lower my cholesterol and stay off of cholesterol medication by changing my diet!

Totally agree. However, pills are quicker and more convenient. On the other hand eating a good healthy meal with friends is most enjoyable.

1.) The juice of carrots, cabbage, celery, beets, and granny smith apples to help the body with an overall cleanse and high dose of easily absorbed nutrients. 2.) Pineapple and plain yogurt to help the digestion. 3.) Yogurt with frozen raspberries or blueberries mixed in for a refreshing snack on a hot day. 4.) Oatmeal, plain or with dark brown sugar, walnuts or raisins, and milk or soymilk. 5.) Homemade multigrain bread with butter and buckwheat honey. This one is in the "comfort" food category for cold miseable winter days. Of course, it would probably be more healthy to have the bread with a good barley soup.

My favorite is round pepper, egg-plant,tofu, fish and cabbage. I like spice food, although it makes me sweat very time. I don't like fast-food,such like hamberger. Everyday I spend lots of time to prepare a good meal for my daughter and myself.

There was a book recently called Superfoods Rx that focuses on more than a dozen 'superfoods' that can really be good for health. Some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head are: almonds, garlic, blueberries, broccoli. oats.
