Why were you given your name?

I am named after my grandmother. I was suppose to be called Kelly or Collen, because my aunt and uncle were going to name their daughter Eva(which is my name by the way). In the end the wound up calling her Monica, so Eva was up for grabs again. My middle name is Marie. We are Catholic and back in the day (not sure if it is still like that) most Catholics wanted their child to have a saints name so I am Marie for Mary. I used to hate my name, I thought it sounded so old fashioned and foreign. No one I knew had a name like mine, but as an adult I feel I have grown into it and I am proud to be named after my grandmother who has since passed on.

Your middle name Marie is my first cousins Connie's middle name. That is where I got that name. Come to think about it, it may also be your great Aunt Carol's middle name as well.

When I was born I was supposed to be a boy and my name was to be Thurman Oscar after my grandfather. But I fooled them all and came out as a girl. My father thought of my name Amber-Rose. I was born to two hippes so that should explain my name. I hated my name growing up NOBODY had my name and everyone made fun of it. Now in my older age I have started to like it.

Amber Rose sounds very pretty to me and I think you are lucky to have that rather than be stuck with Patsie Margaret like I am the margaret I do not mind as it was my mom's name but the Patsie got me nothing but grief when I was a kid. Now Patricia I could have borne but Patsy ended up in countless mean spirited jokes in grade school. I stilldo not like it and go by Pat or Patricia with my friends.my husband's nickname for me was Patty tricia with a comical drawl in there so I did not really mind it. but I also hated being called Patty as I am sensitive enough about my weight and Patty Fatty or Fatty Patty was not exactly pleasant to hear. But I think Amber Rose is rather pretty.

Thank you! Patsy is not bad and who ever called you Patty Fatty or Fatty Patty was just cruel. I am getting used to my name. My daughter though hates me for her name Sarah Tai (Sarah after my great grandmother) and (Tai after my best friends cousin who did when we were in high school.) Names are sooo hard I thought I was getting away with nobody making fun of her name until I realize what her initials were (S.T.D). Now that is a mean mom.

thats so cool that you were names after your grandmother. i've always wanted to be named after a family member. instead i went three days without a name, untill my parents were reading a gossip magazine and saw the name Alexa Rae and choose that for me. [Alexa Rae is Billy Joel's daughter's name]

Pffff...I was given the name Melissa because all the relatives names were taken by the time I came along. Mom liked the name Melissa I guess and I'm sure at that point, after having two other daughters, she didn't really care what she called me. Especially, since my dad wanted a boy so much and that's what they were aiming for. They got me instead...nice, very nice...

I was named after my great grandmother Anna. I never met her, but from pictures, she looked like a strong, self-assured woman.

My parents got my name from the song Jennifer. It's a very old song I don't even know who sang it. I was born 1973 so I guess that song was popular then. I use Paige now because that's my call center name we had to use something unique and different. I got it from Rose McGowan of the TV show Charmed.:)

I think most people hate their given name while growing up. I can't say I like it now, but accept it. My heritage is German on my dad's side and Irish & Welsh on my mother's side. What did I get....a Spanish name (Anita.) What were they thinking??? Then I married a man with an Italian last name and now I get tons of junk mail all printed in Spanish! I can't read a word of it and am sure I get this stuff just because of the name.Go figure.

My mother said to me when I was about 14 that she named me after Kathryn-the great and Queen Elizabeth(1533-1603). my mother has always been a very wierd person, but she did do one great thing and that was naming me. I love my name and I always have. Do you love your name?
