i want to learn web designing, where do i start.
- do i have to learn a language
- is xhtml enough or is there more

if you want to learn web development, you'll need to start off with HTML. its where everything you need to know on basic web development/designing begins. there are tons of sites all over the net that can help you with your study.
after learning HTML, go after CSS and JavaScript to make your web pages better. then you can start going for more scripting like PHP, PERL, ASP, etc. c",)

also, if i may, i'd suggest learning Dreamweaver too! it'll make your web designing way easier. and you can use included references in dreamweaver for FAQs and basic info.
