My children all dislike the opposites, one eats cucumber like apple, the other can't bear it. One loves fish, especially tuna, but the other won't touch fish and yet when she was little she used to eat seafood sticks like most children would eat sweets but won't eat fish now, strange, but as you said in earlier response our taste buds do change when we are older. I never used to like hot spicy food when young and yet I love it now so that may determine somethings though. Perhaps it is slightly genetic, who knows, wseet from the mums side, savoury from the dads or vice versa. Ellie :D

I read somewhere that fussy eaters have more taste buds, making them more sensitive to different tastes. My son is one of them, he is the fussiest eater. I am hoping that as he gets older, his tastes palate will broaden.

it seems that taste buds die of around the time of puberty and flavour becomes less intense making far more things paletable

i think it will be not easy for them, still they need you guidance so they can know better what they need.

I'm not sure other than they have different taste buds. My daughter and my husband love olives but I can't stand them. My husband is her step-dad so she must have got her taste buds from her birth dad.

I think they were influenced by their classmate. I guess whenever they have breaks they got to taste others food and chatted on how to have that. I just observed this on a pre school near on our place.

I don't know how old your kids are but when mine was younger they would eat anything that didn't eat they first. Now that they are older they are very picky. My oldest hates potatoes but when he was younger he'd eat them. He likes hamburger and mac & cheese together. My youngest likes both but not to fond of putting them together. And loves pototoes. Or they like it one day and hate it the next. Kids are just weird. When I was a kid I hated vegetables. But now I eat them. With me it was probably because my parents tried pushing them on me.

what you say makes a lot of sense to me. Another point i have heard made is that our tastes change as we get older because our taste buds die off, so it is not so much that our preferences change but rather that our perception of taste changes
