How would you solve this dilemma?

This morning I was cheerfully enjoying my shower when the doorbell rang. I immediately turned off the water, hair still full of shampoo I grabbed my bathrobe and struggles to wrap it around me as I ran downstairs. Opening the door I discovered that it was the postman with a package. "I was going to leave it on the doorstep" he said. I could have stayed in the shower. Now, would you leave your nice warm shower or bath if the door or the telephone rings?

I would only have left my shower/bath if I was expecting someone to show up, a package delievered or waiting on an important phone call. However I know it's only human nature to automatically react to such, as you had done.

I would only leave the shower if you were at the door, and then, jump right back in, but not alone. For anyone else, it would just be tough beans. :) I can't imagine going to the door with shampoo all over my head, p1kef1sh. Didn't it run down into your eyes and sting? Yikes. And I suppose you must live in a place that's one story. Having to run down stairs, wet, barely robed, and with shampoo on your head would be just too much. You must be much more considerate than I am. So nice to see you, darlin. I just got home a moment ago, and wanted to check in to see where things were, and here I go and get such a nice surprise, seeing you. Brightens my long day. Thanks, love.

Oh my, diamonds and thighs. I almost forgot. I'm so looking forward to that, but you know that, don't you? Yes, here I am, you have not been stood up. I was kept out a bit longer than I expected today, but here I am. Do with me what you will.

There you are Nova, I thought that I'd been stood up! Of course if it had been you there that shower would have been HOT when I got back. I've been trying to do something with Diamonds and thighs all day, it will be worth it when it comes.

I don't understand you 'dilemma'. Why did you leave your shower that you were enjoying? My home is my sanctum...no-one disturbs me unless I let them. Sure, people come to the door and the phone rings but so what? It's up to me if I want to be disturbed. Some people are always welcome in my home and the ones that phone me do so regularly so I know when the phone rings who it's like to be. If it's an important call the person will leave a message or ring back. I certainly won't get out of the bath or shower for visitors, neither will I get off the loo.

The phone ringing has an incredible pull...I know. The first time you ignore it is the hardest...it gets easier. If you like, turn the volume down then it's not so urgent sounding. As for the door...put yourself in their place...they are outside, knocking or buzzing or whatever, they know you are there but you don't answer. They should figure out you are indisposed or not answering because you are busy...even if you are just watching a movie you don't want to miss. Eventually they will get the message and leave. If they call to you just call back and say "there's no-one home".

I never leave the shower to answer the phone or the door. I figure whoever is calling will call again. If it is an emergency I can't do anything until I get the soap off anyways. Same for the door. Most times it won't be anything important anyways. THat said I tend to take my shower either late at night when everyone is asleep or early in the morning when most people are still asleep. I have no choice because apparently my in laws have a radar to know when one of us is taking a shower, so they can start using the water as well. ANd there we are full of soap and no water or just cold, cold water. No matter if we tell them we'll be taking a shower they will always use the water. SO to have a peaceful bath I wait until they're asleep :)

It does get somewhat annoying specially since we always call or go downstairs to tell them we're going to take a shower. Oh well, one of these days I'll do the same to them LOL

Hahahaha, it's always happening to me... Specially when my kids are in school I'm the only one who left in the house. And I just don't know why in any time of the day it is always accidentally happening when I'm in the bathroom taking a bath or for a nature call. I'm only lucky that my bathroom is near our front door that I can shout and tell that I'm in the shower...

Yes of course I will not it is very dangerous here in my place to leave our house open to anyone specially the strangers. It might lead them to temptation to rob my house. Have a nice day....

I would probably be unlikely to hear the doorbell but if I did I would have donne exactly as you only because at that time of day it is usually the postman and he doesn't leave on doorstep so it would involve a trip into town to queue to retrive. Ellie :D

Oh forgot the phone bit. If phone rings no I will stay put in the shower. If its important they will call back or will have left a message, have done so in the past and it has been someone trying to sell me something. Ellie :D

"Good morning I'm from Blot out the Light Windows". Getting out of the shower for that would drive me mad. We subscribe to the Telephone Preference thingy, but it doesn't make a huge difference. Or perhaps it does, but it just doesn't seem that way!

Well I don't have to be in the shower to ignore the phone or door bell ringing. It comes down to this for me, simple, I wasn't expecting anyone, I didn't invite anyone, so they don't need to rudely intrude into my home. Which is how I veiw it when people come around ringing the bell trying to sell something, or preach at me. I know the mail carrier does do this ring the bell and leave package at door, since I know what time of day the mail carrier comes for me there is no rush to get to the door. I have sat in my room reading, even looked out the window at the person ringing the bell, and known it was not someone in distress by their stance, and not someone I know or expect. When the phone rings, if I don't know who is calling then I let it go to voice mail and I will call them back. IF I were in the shower, whomever was at the door, or calling on the phone would have to wait. On the other hand, my niece is disabled, she has a specific ring tone, so if I heard her ring tone and I was in the shower I would get out to get the phone to make sure she was ok didn't need help then let her know I would call her back when I was done.

It likely less willpower and more stubbornness, I just don't need to know who called, or who is at the door. Even before answering machines and caller ID I would let the phone ring if I didn't want to answer it or wasn't expecting a call, if it was my family they knew to let it ring 20 times or so if they expected me to answer.

No, I wouldn't leave my shower or bath if the door bell or telephone rings! If it's really important they'll return or call back, pure and simple and 90% of the time by the time you rush to make yourself decent to answer the person has left or hung up. Annie

Well well... that must have been some greeting for that postman.:P For me, the situation will depend on whether I am expecting something. If yes, I will be trying to take a quick shower in the first place. If I get caught during the shower, I will try to catch the door. Otherwise, just let the bell ring. Who cares? No one made an appointment with me.:P

It is very difficult. I think it is not possible to leave your hot shower or bath if the door or the telephone rings disturb you. We should shut off the power of telephone or we should take our cell phone in the wash room to attend. I use to shut it off the power of my phone set and do not open the door unless and till I do not complete the bath process.

Many people would do the same. I am one of only a few that would contemplate leaving the warmth of my shower for the door. Many thanks for your post.

Sorry to say the person at the door would have to knock like the devil himself was after them for me to leave my nice warm shower. LOL!! But even if I'm in the shower if it's one of my friends and they know I'm home and they knock and I don't answer they automatically come in the house and tell me they are here so I'm not shocked when I come downstairs. Now the phone I have voice mail if it's really important I'll hear the cell phone start to ring. LOL!! I still don't leave my nice warm cacooned shower for that either. LOL!!!

If they let themselves in I would freak. Although we live in a low crime area, we still keep all our doors locked. But I am wondering now quite what I will do next time the doorbell rings and I am showering.

Well, I think if the doorbell rang I would probably get out of the shower to answer it. But I would rinse out the shampoo first. The person at the door would wait if it is something important. Now than, if the phone rang, which has happened to me a hundred times, I wouldn't get out of the shower to answer it. I have voice mail and caller display so if it is important they will leave a message and if no message is left I can see what number called anyways. If I am expecting an important call, I will take the phone with me into the bathroom and then if it rings I can just reach for it to answer it.

ahh dont you hate that?! I remember being in the shower and hearing the doorbell ring three times in a row all real quickly together, so thinkin it was an emergency..i jumped out, shampoo running in my eyes and all over to the door...only to find that it was kids running up and down the apartment hallways. eh. After that..NEVER AGAIN! lol Inless of course I was expecting someone or something. In which case, I prob wouldve waited to shower. Altho, if youre luck is anthing like mine, that call that you were expecting but finally gave up on..or the person that said they would stop by 3 hours ago and didnt so you decide to go on w/ your life..will inevitably ring or show up the moment you step into the shower LOL

I would have let them knock on the door or let the phone ring. If its important they will come back. Usually the only time my doorbell rings is if im expecting someone and then i wont be in the shower but those times do happen and i would not get out of the nice warm shower to answer my door or my phone

Your crazy! I wouldnt get outta the shower for nothing. Well ok, if there was a fire then i'd get out... but i rarely answer the door if i'm properly dressed and i dont know who it is!! IF they haven't informed me of a visit, then it can't be that important and next time they can call and make sure i'll be home!!

I have disconnected my doorbell because its in the hallway by my kids bedroom, and when the neighbor kids ring wanting to play with the older kids, they would wake the babies up. So I wouldn't hear it if they tried to ring. However if they knocked, some kid would bang on my bathroom door shouting that someone was at the door, and I would grudgingly have to hurry and get out. That's always when I get interrupted...which is why I never have time to sing in the shower.

I can't hear my phone or doorbell ringing when I'm in the shower. I always have the music blaring on my little radio in the bathroom. So in answer to your question, I would NOT leave my nice warm shower to answer the phone or door. :D

I wish I hadn't. Going back into it was not pleasant. Perhaps I should start listening to the radio when I am in the bathroom.

Well that exact same issue happened to me quit recently. I was taking a warm shower and was in there for about 5 minutes and the doorbell rings. My dog was barking frantically and wouldn't stop. So I quickly got out of the shower put on my bathrobe and stuck just my head out the door and it was the postman. He looked excited to see such a view of wet hair and a bright pink bathrobe. In fact, I grabbed the package and went inside. i was so angry at his smile I did not even sign the package! That was both embarrassing and frustrating at the same time!
