Have you ever had poor weather on a vacation?

Sometimes hurricanes happen. I visited the Cook Islands just after one had hit. The steps from the backpackers hostel down to the beach had snapped in the rain and high winds. My flight to Mexico was canceled because a hurricane hit the Mexican coast. So I quickly booked a flight to the Maldives. Oh my! It was expensive in the Maldives. Have you ever had poor weather on a vacation? If so how did this affect you? Did you enjoy your vacation or did the poor weather spoil things? Thanks.

I went to Hawaii 3 years ago, and it rained every morning while we were there. It usually cleared up by 11:00am, but even when it poured there, to us(coming from canada, lol) It was still beautiful to see rain rather than snow! It only spoiled our scuba diving. We were gonna go shark watching, but because of the rain we weren't able to do it. which sucked, but either way, still a great trip!

It was a shame that it rained so much in Hawaii when you were there. I got my legs really badly sun burnt there because I dozed off to sleep on a beach. The sea was really rough on a whale watching boat trip. I am glad that even though your trip was rainy you still had a wonderful trip. Scuba diving must be amazing I love to go snorkeling but coral looks dull on rainy days sunlight shows off all its colors.

People imagine it is sunny every day at Disney World. It is such a shame you had rain there. It is great that you still had fun because it is that sort of place.

When I first went out to Cyprus with my parents, we were in Paphos where the heavens opened, dad had hired a jeep and the rains quickly accumulated and everywhere became a flood plain! It was like an instant river, thankfully we were able to drive back but it ruined our day in Paphos. Here in the UK you have to expect bad weather even in the Summer and it's quite a lottery to get a good week especially if you book months in advance. The rain is so unpredictable as we well know!

Yes, Wolfie you were unfortunate to have had such poor weather in Cyprus. In the summer I go to my local beach and it gets packed with hundreds of people. In the part of Australia my cousin lives in a crowded beach has five people on it! I went to the Lake District one August and the weather was delightfully hot and sunny but often it rains there.

Yes, Rintintin the bugs are bothersome in the summer time. I would like to go island hopping in Scotland one day and if I do I will take some insect repellent.

I've had quite a few vacations where the weather was pretty bad... No hurricanes but lots of rain. Yes it did put a damper on it. There were several things I wanted to do but couldn't really enjoy because of the weather so we cancelled some of our plans.

One of the many occasions I have been to the Bahamas it rained and that did not stop me. In fact it was probably better that it WAS raining. All the shops were empty... it was like I had full reign of the whole island. I kinda liked it. Thanks Zelo

I would love to go to the Bahamas. So you had an enjoyable time out shopping whilst many other people stayed in their accommodation. It must be wonderful to feel like you had reign of the whole island.

I guess I've been lucky. I haven't experienced any extreme weather conditions while on vacation. However there have been some pretty nasty situations that I remember. First was in Acapulco where we were on the edge of a hurricane. The second wss on a ferry off the Queensland coast where it was that rough seats and chairs were being swept overboard. Only two of us didn't throw up. The third was when I had taken my two kids to an island off the coast and it rained the whole week we were there. Nothing really extreme.

Thank God, I have never experienced an earthquake. I guess if you consider holidays that have been disrupted by weather conditions would only be asmall percentage, and would never stop me from returning to a destination. However, earthquakes ... I believe may put me off.

An earthquake would be terrible. Just before I went on my trip around the world there were riots in Los Angeles this didn't put me off going as it was just in one small part of the greater Los Angles area. Australia has bush fires sometimes and I think these can spread. These also happened whilst I was away for my years trip. But I was not in Australia at the time the bush fires were burning.

Hurricanes are no fun and they can cause damage that remains after all the bad weather is over. One of my friends lived through an awful earthquake in San Francisco then he went to Fiji for a relaxing vacation. But a hurricane hit the island he he was staying on and he got stuck there for longer than he had planned. Yes, I remember the sea off the Queensland coast being a bit rough on the way back from snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. It must have been annoying for you and your children to have seen rain for a whole week.

I imagine Florida as being hot and sunny all year round. It is a shame that it rained for days. I like to see sunsets and think that Florida must have more of them than it does rainy days.

There was a very a great storm when my friends and i once went to Baguio for a short vacation... so we had to stay indoor the whole time... we ate a lot and played games... but it would have been much fun it we were able to see the sights of the place... it was so cold and the traffic was so bad that we ended up spending like 12 hours in the bus on our way home... that was the worst vacation ever...

I am sorry that your worst vacation was so bad. Staying inside can be boring compared to being outside exploring in sunshine. The traffic sounds awful on your way home. Twelve hours on a bus after a rainy trip is no fun.

Whilst my daughter was travelling there was an earthquake at sea and Fiji was put on a high alert tsunami watch. She was completely unaware and slept through whilst back in the UK we were frantic with worry watching sky news for the latest. Luckly it didn't happen, but I am so pleased she was unaware bless. I have never experienced bad weather myself whilst I have been away so I've been lucky really. Ellie :D

You must have been so worried about your daughters safety with such a terrible warning. It is lucky that Fiji didn't get him by very high waves after that earthquake at sea. I am so pleased that your daughter was unaware of the possible danger. I once spoke to a lady in Sydney and told me about the time she was sitting on a beach and a high wave from Fiji hit the people on the beach and took many possessions out to sea.

We went to Wales in England for a long weekend, we hired a caravan on a huge park and we went for just 4 days. It absolutely poured it down the whole time it never stopped. But you know that turned out to be one of the best short breaks we ever had, because we were stuck in the caravan we played games together and we all went swimming in the parks pool and we just had a really great time!

I am glad that you still managed to have a fun time in the indoor pool and with games that you played whilst in Wales. It is a shame that the rain pured all the time that you were there. I would like to walk some of the Pembroke Coast Path is sunny weather and I know rain would spoil such a walk.

I lost much visibility on a mountain in Norway once when all I could see around me was fog. I am can imagine that it was similar for you when you went to the hill station. I am glad that you still enjoyed your vacation.

We also faced some problems during our trip to kodaikanal in india .We went for 4 days. Eventhough that was not a rainy season, there was rain for 2 days continuously. So we couidnt came out from the room.Eventhough our plan was spoiled ,due to rain we enjoyed rain in hill station.

Two days out of a four day trip makes for a wet time. It can be boring to have to stay in a room instead of be out exploring. I would love to go to India one day.

I haven't had anything quite so exciting as hurricanes, but I've been rained on or had unusually hot weather on vacations. Getting rained out while camping isn't much fun, so I've packed up and went home early. The vacation that was extra hot was uncomfortable, but we still did everything we'd planned. We did tend to linger in the air conditioned spots though.

When camping rain can spoil a trip. It is a shame that you had to go home early. I can see you find very hot temperatures uncomfortable. Air conditioned shops feel like a fridge after coming into them from the street. In Darwin in Australia it was hot and humid with heavy downpours, thunder and lightening.

Yes, quite a few times I have experienced poor weather on a vacation. The one I remember most is when my daughter & I visited Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. She was 8 years old at the time. It rained the hole 6 days we were there. As the road my house is on was only a dirt road then, it became flooded. Water ran down the edges & then across the road forming creejs. The next door neighbours yard became so bogged he was unable to get his mini bus out. We stayed in the house nearly the whole 6 days. My daughter did school work & I read & watched TV.

Oh, I love Kangaroo Island and I had wonderfully hot and sunny weather when I went there. In Penneshaw I saw the fairy penguins and it was such an amazing experience. I am sorry that it rained for the whole six days you were there. It is lucky your daughter had school work to do and a television to watch. It is annoying when a trip is washed out by an exceptional amount of rain.

After I graduated from school, my family and I had a long time travel. It was raining when we were in Shanghai and Chongqing. It was not convenient to have such kind of weather when we were traveling. We had to carry the umbrellas all the time and took photos:)

This must have been a wet kind of travel experience. I have a small umbrella but it is not awfully convenient tot have one when the weather is windy. Last night my area had a gale and my letter box kept rattling. The wind made things in my garden knock over and this made one of my dogs bark.

I went to Fairbanks, Alaska to see my sister at Christmas when her husband was stationed there. A couple of days after we got there, a blizzard hit and it was terrible for a few days, but otherwise it wasn't that bad....

A blizzard must have meant terrible weather conditions. When I was working as a children's nanny in Finland and I met a girl that was a student from Alaska she was on exchange. She thought the two places were very similar indeed. There was one hot day the whole time I was in Finland.
