to Blow or Boil

in decorating your eggs - do you hard boil them or do you blow out the yolks? which do you prefer and for what kind of decorating do you prefer different to boil or blow? do you use a gadget for blowing out the yolk or do you purse your lips to the shell and have at it? I remember how sore my jaws used to get when I was a kid - trying to blow out of that pinhole... just as bad as blowing up balloons would make them feel.

LOL - I have a whole container full of 'empty egg shells'. I did some myself but 2 grandkids helped with the majority - I poked holes in each end and we blew them out. We did it the way you discribed here and it's not easy :( Now, I have all these empty eggs I don't know what I'm going to do with them but plan to decorate them at some point, somehow.

I always enjoyed blowing the eggs as a child - I guess it just seemed more involved. Though I liked dipping the hardboiled eggs as well. the colors so vivid and alive.

For Easter we always dipped the hard boiled ones so had never 'blown' them until a month or so ago. I had seen a craft show where they blew them out and then decorated them - they were beautiful. Now I can't seem to find the directions of what they did to them. Someplace in my million files on my computer I'm sure.

We used to always blow them out then as we got older my mother used to hard boil them and that's what I do. I remember having to eat them on Easter morning....and I don't like the yolk! LOL...almost gagged but mother didn't want to waste them! LOL

yep, I remember those days when I disliked the yolk too - and now my little ones do not like it - isnt it strange? as I grow older I find I prefer the yolks. the really gross thing, though, would have been eating eggs blown out by my brothers breath but somehow that did not compute in my head. hehe

Hubby and I have always boiled the eggs for decorating at Easter. We boil and cool them then the kids decorate them in various ways. They have always enjoyed writing or drawing things onto the eggs with a white crayon and then dipping the eggs into the dye. This way there is a white imprint of whatever they have drawn on the egg. They have made polka dot eggs, striped eggs and many other decorations by this method. They also enjoy drawing and decorating with Sharpie markers. They are 17 and 18 and still enjoy decorating eggs! Hubby always makes one with his favorite college basketball team on it...Duke Bluedevils!

Yes, poke a hole on both ends of the egg - put one end up to your mouth and blow for all you're worth.`

I definitly hard boil them. My son loves to see how the dye changes the color of the actual egg. He always says mommy i want an easter egg. Even when easter is not for a while away lol. So its then I know that I have to hard boil the egg and let him know that its cooking. I have never tried to blow an egg before.
