I heard a jock once It went like this; The doctor told me I was going through the change, he just did not tell me what I was going to change into. The speaker was rubbing her chin. the she said I am turning into my father. (talking about all the stray facial hairs women get when they go through the change). I am going through the change of life. I had a particial hysterectomy in 1986. I have not had a period since then so why do I have to suffer from night sweats and hot flashes? For all of you who have never gone though a hot flash it is one of the most uncomfortable things to go through. It is like having a fire in my chest that radiates out the rest of my body. It starts all of a sudden no matter where you are or what you are doing. I could be out in 40 degree weather sweating like a pig. The worst part of the problem is that I get dizzy and nausious. I get dizzy spells anyway but with the hot flashes they are worst. Now the night sweats------- I wake up soaked from head to toe. I have to change my nightgown and go outside to cool off. I then have to lay on towles so I do not lay back in a wet bed. I cannot change sheets because it would wake my hubby. If I turn the ceiling fan on it freezes my hubby out. hahahaha. I have two nightgowns going one dry and one wet. I change into the dry one and hang the wet one up in the bathroom. I have been known to shower to cool off and clean up. The other day I went to the doctor for my annual pap smear and spoke to the doctor about taking soy tables. I cannot take hormones because a history of breast cancer in the family. Ladies what do you do out there to stay comfortable during a hot flash? Men what do your mothers/partners do to keep their cool? For

My mood swings are not so bad. I do have some days very few that I just want to cry. ON my birthday I cried at the drop of the hat. I cried everytime I trurned around. That was in Nov. Now I do get mad and it seems to be at my husband but he has been doing things he has not done before. Oh well we all are changing.

About 6 months or so ago, I started with the hot flashes and night sweats. I started to garlic tablets, and the hot flashes and night sweats seemed to vanish. I started taking them because they are good for the heart. But I'm glad that they subsided by taking garlic. About a month ago I ran out of my multivitamin, and picked up a bottle that had iron in them, I began to have the night sweats and hot flashes again, and as soon as I realized this is what was causing them, I quit taking the vitamins with iron. So if you are taking a multi-vitamin with iron, don't take them. And try the garlic it may help you too!

My change came early, and I really didn't notice it much. I do however still get hot flashes on occasion. I had one this morning and it drove me nuts. I couldn't wait to get in the shower. After my hot shower I felt much better. Ha ha then I layered up my clothes to go ouside.

I am finding my hot flashes are cyclic and tend to be worse in the winter. I think I notice them more in the winter because I do not have the fans going.
